American Express has added another card to the AMEX Membership Rewards points earning family!

The Blue Business℠ Plus Credit Card from American Express is a small business card with NO annual fee!  You’ll earn 20,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of opening your account.

The AMEX Blue Business Plus is official!  With this offer, you’ll earn 20,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points when you sign-up and spend $3,000 in qualifying purchases on the card within the first 3 months.

You’ll also get:

The old Blue for Business® Credit Card from American Express (no longer available) did NOT allow you to transfer your AMEX Membership Rewards points to travel partners unless you also had a “premium” AMEX card, like the Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express or The Business Platinum® Card from American Express OPEN.

But with the no annual fee American Express Blue Business Plus, you can transfer your points directly to partners!  That means anyone can get Big Travel with Small Money with this card, even without holding other cards!

Most AMEX business cards do NOT impact your chances of getting certain Chase cards in the future.  That’s because AMEX small business cards do NOT show up on your personal credit report!

You’ll also get basic insurance benefits, like:

  • Rental car insurance – Coverage for theft of or damage to most rental vehicles
  • Baggage insurance – Reimbursement for eligible lost, damaged, or stolen baggage when you purchase the entire “common carrier” (like a plane, train, ship, or bus) fare on your card (up to $1,250 for carry-on baggage and up to $500 for checked baggage).
  • Travel accident insurance – Up to $100,000 in accidental death and dismemberment coverage while traveling on a “common carrier” (like a plane, train, ship, or bus) when the entire fare has been charged to the eligible Card
  • Extended warranty – You’ll get up to 1 extra year added to the original US manufacturer’s warranty (only valid for warranties of 5 years or less, up to $10,000 per item)

Is This a Good Deal?

This is a worthwhile offer, especially because you’ll earn 2X AMEX Membership Rewards points on ALL purchases up to $50,000 per year.  That’s convenient, because you won’t have to worry about bonus categories!

It’s also good to consider if you’ve already opened most other AMEX Membership Rewards points earning cards.  Because AMEX will only allow folks to receive the sign-up bonus ONCE per lifetime on each card.

You can transfer AMEX Membership Rewards points directly from your AMEX Blue Business Plus to lots of valuable airline partners, like Air Canada, Delta, and Flying Blue.  So an extra 20,000 points could be very useful!

Another great feature of the AMEX Blue Business Plus card is the ability to spend above your credit limit without incurring fees, similar to the AMEX SimplyCash Plus card.  So if you’re a small business owner trying to grow a business, you can supply your business with its needs without worrying about being declined.

Say you have a lawn care company and and have a $12,000 credit limit on your new AMEX Blue Business Plus small business card.  You want to buy new lawn mowing equipment, and need to spend $20,000.  With this benefit, AMEX may approve you to use your card to buy the equipment, even though you don’t have the credit limit for it!

Having the Option to Spend Above Your Credit Limit Is Great When You’re Growing Your Business!

Note:  The amount you can spend over your credit limit is NOT unlimited.  AMEX will adjust the amount you’re allowed to spend according to things like your card use, payment history, and credit record.

And you’ll be required pay the amount above your credit limit in full each month as part of your minimum payment due.  But you will NOT pay over-limit fees.

And while the amount you can spend beyond your credit limit varies based on those factors, you can check whether you can use your card to pay for a particular purchase.

Just go to the “Check Spending Power” section of your online account or call the number on the back of your card.

Because this card will likely NOT affect folks trying to stay under the “Chase 5/24 rule“, it’s worth considering the card.  And you’ll never have to cancel the card because it has no annual fee!

Read my post on why everyone should have a card with no annual fee.

Bottom Line

More options are always a good thing!  So I’m excited to see American Express release a new AMEX Membership Rewards points-earning card, the American Express Blue Business Plus.

With NO annual fee and a 20,000 AMEX Membership Rewards point sign-up bonus that you can transfer directly to travel partners, I think this card will be tempting for lots of folks.  Especially because the card should NOT show up on your personal credit report.

Plus, you’ll get 2X AMEX Membership Rewards points on the first $50,000 of purchases each year!

I was approved for this card. I also have the Premium Business Amex card. I got a letter today that stated because I already had a an eligible card enrolled in the Membership Rewards First program, the new Blue Business Plus card would be enrolled in this program as well but if I cancelled my premium business card, my membership reward would be converted to the membership rewards instead of the membership rewards first. What does this mean? Does this mean that I would not be able to transfer to airlines and hotels? I thought this new blue business plus was going to give me full transferring ability. Thanks for any info.

foreign transaction fee?

I do not currently have any AmEx cards, I have a few chase cards, sitting on about 250k Chase UR points. Would this be a good place to start with AmEx points?

Not really, Paul. It's a great card for everyday spend, but I'd seek out the big bonuses first (50,000-100,000 point opportunities). I'd look to see if you have any targeted offers with big bonuses first since you don't have any Amex cards.

The thing that would make me nervous about applying for this card (or for ANY small business card, really) is that small business cards always have some disclaimer in the application that you agree to only use the card for business purposes. I know they do that to cover their rears (since business card have fewer protections than personal cards), and I'm sure the banks know that folks use business cards for personal use (they're not dumb, contrary to what some people think), but if I had one of these cards and the bank decided to enforce that provision, I'd be screwed.

according to the terms I saw, and the CS rep that I spoke to after getting approved, it is actually 15 Months of 0%, not 12 months...

well, I guess if you just go through Amex and not your link. Sorry for any confusion.
