Best Uses of Southwest Points

Southwest points are some of the best points you can earn for domestic travel.  And even some international travel around the Caribbean and Central America!  That’s because Southwest usually charges fewer points than other airlines.

And Million Mile Secrets readers know how to get the most from Southwest points!  Lots of folks use them for trips for things like Disney vacations and business commuting.

They’re easy to earn, so they’re great for folks on a budget.

2.   Companion Pass

Emily and I consider the Southwest Companion Pass to be the best deal in travel.  That’s because you can bring a friend along whenever you fly Southwest for just the cost of taxes & fees!  That makes your Southwest points (or cash) worth nearly twice as much when flying Southwest.

Southwest also doesn’t charge fees for booking too close to your departure date.  So you can use your points for spontaneous fun trips without paying extra!

5.   Positioning Flights

Southwest flies to most gateway cities.  That’s helpful for folks who like to book cheap international flights from major cities and need a way to get there.

For example, if you took advantage of the recent ~$224 round-trip flights to Europe, you can use Southwest points to fly cheaply to the cities participating in the sale.

I use them to take my daughter to and from college from Cleveland to Orange Country, CA. The two free bags per person are the best when transporting a dorm room across the country. And the companion pass makes it even better!
