If you prefer online shopping like I do, you likely make lots of purchases at Amazon.

If so, there are many excellent credit cards to use, which earn miles toward travel or cash back.

And some cards have bonus perks, like Citi Price Rewind, which refunds your money when prices go down on certain items you’ve bought!

1.   Chase Freedom Unlimited

I like the no annual fee Chase Freedom Unlimited card because you earn 1.5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points (1.5% cash back) per $1 you spend on all purchases with NO limit.

These points add up if you do a lot of shopping at Amazon!

And you can combine points and transfer them to airline and hotel partners if you also have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire ReserveInk Business Preferred, Ink Plus (no longer available) or Ink Bold (no longer available).

Chase Ultimate Rewards points are my favorite type of flexible rewards.  Because you can get Big Travel when you transfer points to partners like Hyatt or Southwest.

Emily and I have used Chase Ultimate Rewards points for stays at hotels like the Park Hyatt Milan and Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa.

2.   Discover it

Folks can earn 5% cash back at Amazon with the no annual fee Discover it card when the site is included in the rotating quarterly bonus categories.

We’ll have to wait and see if Amazon is included from July to December, like it was last year.

With the 5X bonus categories, you can earn $75 cash back on up to $1,500 in purchases each quarter after you activate the bonus.

And for new cardmembers, Discover will match the cash back you’ve earned at the end of your first 12 billing cycles.  So purchases you made in the 5% bonus categories will get you 10% cash back!

3.   Citi Double Cash

With the no annual fee Citi Double Cash card, you’ll earn 1% cash back on every purchase.  And another 1% cash back when you make payments, as long you meet the minimum payment on your monthly statement.

After you reach $25 in rewards, you can redeem your cash back for a mailed check, statement credit, or gift cards.

But one of the best perks about using this card for Amazon purchases is the Citi Price Rewind program.

You Can Use the Citi Price Rewind Perk With the Citi Double Cash Card to Get a Refund on Eligible Amazon Purchases If the Prices Drops Within 60 Days

After you register your purchase, Citi will watch for 60 days to see if price changes.  If the price drops, you will be refunded the difference!

You’ll earn 1 Starwood point per $1 spent at Amazon with the AMEX Starwood card.

But Starwood points are extremely valuable and hard to earn.  And the points are flexible because you can transfer them to many airline partners at a 1:1 ratio.

Plus, you’ll earn 5,000 bonus airline miles for every 20,000 Starwood points you transfer.

That means every $1 spent on the AMEX Starwood cards is worth up to 1.25 airline miles!

There are also many other terrific ways to redeem Starwood points like Nights & Flights packages.  Or you can convert Starwood points to Marriott or Ritz-Carlton points for free nights.

5.   Chase Amazon Prime

Folks with an Amazon Prime membership can earn 5% cash back on Amazon purchases with the no annual fee Chase Amazon Prime card.  Without a Prime membership, you’ll earn 3% cash back.

Depending on your Amazon spending habits, you can earn lots of cash back with this card.  And you don’t have to worry about rotating bonus categories or activating promotions on your cards.

Folks With a Prime Membership Earn 5% Cash Back on ALL Amazon Purchases With the Chase Amazon Prime Card

But getting this card might limit you from getting more valuable Chase travel cards in the future.  Because Chase will NOT approve you for most of their credit cards if you have opened 5+ credit cards from ANY bank (except certain business cards) in the past 24 months.

But if you’re not interested in travel rewards cards or already have more than 5 new cards, consider the Chase Amazon Prime card to save money on Amazon purchases.

Note:   Folks say this card is NOT impacted by the Chase application rules.

6.   AMEX Premier Rewards Gold

When you pay for Amazon purchases with your AMEX Premier Rewards Gold card, you’ll earn flexible AMEX Membership Rewards points.

Amazon isn’t included in a bonus category with this card.  But you’ll get some of the best extended warranty benefits available.

This is helpful when you’re making a large purchase like an expensive television or fitness equipment.

Because when you pay with the card, you’ll get 1 extra year added to a warranty of 5 years or less on eligible items.

If something goes wrong with your item and it’s covered by the extended warranty, you can get a refund up to the amount charged to your card, with a maximum of $10,000.  And no more than $50,000 per calendar year.

Check here for the complete AMEX extended warranty terms & conditions.

Bottom Line

If you shop at Amazon, you can earn flexible points or cash back by using certain credit cards.

For example, you’ll earn 1.5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points (1.5% cash back) on ALL purchases with the no annual fee Chase Freedom Unlimited card.  Combine these points with another eligible Chase Ultimate Rewards card and you can transfer points directly to airline and hotel partners like Southwest or Hyatt.

Or use the no annual fee Citi Double Cash card to earn up to 2% cash back at Amazon.  And Citi can track your purchases for 60 days to get you a refund if the price drops.

If you’re buying a big-ticket item, consider the AMEX Premier Rewards Gold card to get the extended warranty benefits.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the Ink business card. I use these to buy Amazon gift cards at Office Depot at 5x and do all my Amazon shopping that way.

What card would you suggest for home improvementso. Need replace gutters and in ground pool liner. I have Barclay,Discover it, Citi, and Chase Freeman. Thoughts, anyone!

Does anyone know of a quick/easy way to check how much you have spent in the current quarter on the Discover It card without adding up the purchases yourself? Chase Freedom has a good bar graph that shows this but it would be nice if Discover It did, or maybe it does and I just can't locate it. Thanks in advance.

Or if you don't have access to a chase 5x business UR catagory card you can just buy Amazon Gift cards at gas stores (this quarter till April) or grocery stores (April-June) with the regular Freedom (not Freedom Unlimited)

NO!! Chase cards are bad - the 5/24 rule needs to go and you should not promote ANY Chase cards or their usage. the travel/card churning blogosphere by denouncing Chase's 5/24 rule so that they back off of it. You'll generate much more affliate compensation if Chase was to get rid of the 5/24 rule.

BTW, the AMDX SPG card is a GREAT alternative to the Chase Marriott card(bad).
