Update:   One or more card offers in this post are no longer available.  Check our Hot Deals for the latest offers.

Through April 5, 2017, you can earn up to 35,000 Starwood points on both the Starwood Preferred Guest American Express personal and small business cards after meeting tiered minimum spending requirements.

I’ve written why this is a great offer.  But did you know that applying for the small business version of the AMEX Starwood card will NOT hurt you chances of being approved for Chase cards in the future?

That’s important, because Chase has some of the best travel rewards cards.  And the easiest and fastest way to get Big Travel with Small Money is to sign-up for credit cards with big bonuses.

The Sign-Up Bonus From the AMEX Starwood Small Business Card Is Enough for a Free Night at the Stunning St. Regis Princeville Resort. And It Will NOT Count Against Chase’s 5/24 Rule

I’ll share the details of the AMEX Starwood small business card offer.  And help you decide whether it might make sense for you!

About the AMEX Starwood Small Business Card Offer

With the AMEX Starwood small business (and personal!) card you can earn up to 35,000 Starwood points after meeting tiered spending requirements..  But you must apply by April 5, 2017.

You’ll earn 25,000 Starwood points after spending $5,000 within the first 3 months of account opening.  And another 10,000 Starwood points after spending an additional $3,000 within the first 6 months of opening your account.

10,000 Extra Starwood Points Gets You 2 Weekday Nights at Category 2 Starwood Hotels, Like the Sheraton Dallas Hotel by the Galleria

Remember, AMEX will only give you the sign-up bonus for each card ONCE per lifetime.

The sign-up bonus on these cards has only been this high once before.  And because of the Marriott-Starwood merger, I’m not sure how long they’ll stick around.  So if you’ve been considering the personal or small business version of this card, now is a great time to apply!

That said, I almost always suggest getting any Chase cards you want first because of Chase’s stricter approval rules.  If you’ve opened ~5+ credit cards from any bank (except these business cards) in the past 24 months, it’s unlikely Chase will approve you most of their cards.

However, the AMEX Starwood small business card will NOT affect your chances of being approved for Chase cards in the future.  Because it does NOT count against Chase’s 5/24 rule!

So if you’re new to miles & points, you could take advantage of the limited-time higher offer on the AMEX Starwood small business card AND get the Chase Sapphire Preferred (my favorite card for beginners!), for example.

Or you could consider the Chase Southwest cards if you’re trying to earn the Southwest Companion Passthe best deal in travel!

If you’re unsure of your 5/24 status, here’s how to check it.  And here’s how to earn big miles & points with these 7 quick small business ideas.

Bottom Line

You can earn up to 35,000 Starwood points through April 5, 2017, after meeting tiered minimum spending requirements with the AMEX Starwood small business (and personal!) card.

Not only is this a great offer, but applying for the AMEX Starwood small business card does NOT count against Chase’s 5/24 rule!  So it won’t affect your chances of being approved for Chase cards in the future.

Does the spg personal card count toward the chase 5/24 rule?

I don’t get how this is that good of a deal.

It’s a high(ish) spend with a mediocre reward.

Does the SPG personal (not small business) count towards the chase 5/24 rule??

You can still get a 100,000 point(Ultimate Rewards) bonus on the Chase Sappire Reserve if you apply in a branch. I think that would make more sense than getting the Sapphire Preferred right now, because the 100,000 point UR bonus is going away soon.

What are Amex rules for getting the bonus, for personal and for businesses cards? Is it once in a lifetime?

You can only get the bonus once per lifetime. If you had the personal card, you can still get the bonus on the business card or vice versa.

Also, if you know anybody that already has the card, they can get 5000 Starpoints if you apply using their link. My wife already has the card and I was able to get her 5000 Starpoints when I signed up for the card using her referral link.
