Update: One or more card offers in this post are no longer available. Check our Hot Deals for the latest offers.

There’s an improved offer for the Chase United MileagePlus Explorer card!  You’ll earn 50,000 United Airlines miles after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account.  Plus an additional 5,000 United Airlines miles when you add an authorized user and make a purchase in the same timeframe.

But folks on Reddit report a better targeted offer for the same card, which comes with 70,000 United Airlines miles and a $50 statement credit after you meet minimum spending requirements.  To see if you’re eligible, sign-in with your United Airlines frequent flyer number and password.

We don’t earn a commission for the targeted offer, but Emily and I will always tell you about better deals!

With either deal, you’ll earn more than enough United Airlines miles for 2 round-trip coach tickets within North America.  Or a one-way Business Class ticket to Europe!

But if you’re not targeted, this is a good deal.  You’ll get:

  • 50,000 United Airlines miles after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account
  • 5,000 United Airlines miles after adding an authorized user and making a purchase within the same timeframe.
  • 2 United Airlines miles per $1 you spend on United Airlines
  • 1 United Airlines mile per $1 you spend on all other purchases
  • 10,000 bonus miles when you spend $25,000 on your card each year
  • 2 United Club passes per year
  • First checked bag free when you use your card to pay for your ticket
  • Priority boarding

The $95 annual fee is NOT waived the first year.  But you won’t pay foreign transaction fees, which makes it a good card to use overseas.

Check out my review of the card and my guide to earning and using United Airlines miles!

Keep in mind, Chase has tightened its application rules.  So if you’ve opened more than ~5 credit cards within the past 24 months from ANY bank (except these small business cards), it’s likely you will NOT be approved for the card.

The bonus on this card was previously 30,000 United Airlines miles plus a $50 statement credit after meeting minimum spending requirements.  So now’s a good time to apply if you’ve had your eye on the card.

Remember, cardholders will see more available award seats than folks who don’t have the card.

Note:   If you’re not eligible for the 50,000 United Airlines miles deal, there are other airline cards which also earn a similar number of miles, like the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite™ Mastercard®, which also earns 50,000 miles. after spending $5,000 within the first three months of account opening.

Here are ideas for how to use 50,000 United Airlines miles.

1.   A Round-Trip Flight to Hawaii

A round-trip coach flight from the mainland US or Canada to Hawaii costs 45,000 United Airlines miles.  So you’ll have more than enough miles for a trip the tropics!

2.   Two Round-Trip Tickets to Anywhere in the Continental US or Canada

50,000 United Airlines miles is enough for 2 round-trip coach flights to New York City, California, or anywhere within the US mainland and Canada.

3.   A One-Way Business Class Flight to Brazil

You’ll actually earn ~58,000 United Airlines miles when you complete the minimum spending and add an authorized user to your Chase United MileagePlus Explorer card.

So you’ll have the 55,000 United Airlines miles you’d need for a one-way Business Class flight from the US to Brazil (or any other destination in southern South America).

I can’t figure out what the targeted offer is – every time I click on it I just see info about 50,000 bonus miles and nothing about the extra 20,000–am I missing something?

Oops – never mind. I went back and re-read the post and now I understand. Thanks for this!

I logged in and found 70k offer. But I had more than 5 cards opened within last 2 years so 5/24 rule will be an issue for me. Do you think I have any chance to get approved? Any thing can I do to get around the rule?

I am not eligible for the targeted offer. Do you think I should hold out for a while? I already have the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Chase Freedom (have had both for at least a year) and just signed up for the Chase Freedom Unlimited.

Million Mile Secrets

It cycles between 30K and 50K so I’d wait until it is 50K.

It’s at 50k, but not at the 70k. I was hoping for that! So it sounds like instead of waiting for 70k, I should take it while it’s 50.
