Here are 5 ideas for earning 7,500 bonus Chase Ultimate Rewards points this quarter.

Earn Chase Ultimate Rewards Points for Gas & Commuter Transportation

Through March 31, 2017, you’ll earn 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points (5% cash back) on up to $1,500 in combined spending at gas stations and on commuter transportation with the Chase Freedom card.  Remember to activate the bonus by March 14, 2017.

The commuter transportation category also includes taxis, Uber, and Lyft rides!  You can see a full list of valid merchants (as well as exclusions) here.

And when you have the Chase Sapphire ReserveSapphire Preferred, Ink Business Preferred, Ink Bold (no longer available), or the Ink Plus (no longer available), you can transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to airline and hotel partners like United Airlines and Hyatt for Big Travel!

Chase Freedom is my favorite no annual fee card.  Because you can earn lots of Chase Ultimate Rewards points on things you buy anyway.  Here are 5 ideas to get you started!

1.   Take Your Chase Freedom to Big Cities

Heading to a city with mass transit?  Bring your Chase Freedom!

Chase Freedom Bonus Categories Come in Handy for Folks Traveling to (or Living in) Big Cities Like New York or Boston

You can use public transportation instead of renting a car, and likely save money and inconvenience (parking in big cities like New York City can be both expensive and a hassle).  Plus, you’ll earn 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points per $1 when you use your Chase Freedom.  You won’t get that bonus for reserving a rental car!

Plus, Chase categorizes UberLyft, and taxi rides as commuter transportation.  And drivers usually have tips and information about the local area.

2.   Load or Buy Transit Passes

Plenty of bus and subway networks have passes you can load for your daily commute, so you don’t have to keep buying a new pass each day!

Folks in San Francisco can buy a multi-use ticket for the Bay Area Rapid Transit system.  And folks in New York can load their MTA pass.  They will both earn bonus Chase Ultimate Rewards points when you use your Chase Freedom.

You could earn 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points on the Long Island Rail Road and Metro North trains.  That could be helpful if you’re exploring Queens like I did!

3.   Buy Other Items at the Gas Station

Gas stations sell more than just gas.  If prices are competitive, you might swing by a gas station convenience store for things like milk, cereal, or toiletries.  Buy what you can at the gas station this quarter, instead of a grocery store where you’ll only earn 1X Chase Ultimate Rewards point per $1!

Sure, you’ll feel awkward buying your partner a last-minute Valentine’s Day gift at a place that smells like diesel fuel.  But you’ll earn 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points for your next vacation together.  And THAT’S romantic.

Many gas stations also sell snacks and drinks.  So you can grab a bite along your way, and earn bonus Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

4.   Add Authorized Users

Whether you’re trying to meet a credit card’s minimum spending or get in on a promotion like Chase Freedom quarterly bonus categories, an authorized user can help you accomplish your goal!

You can add up to 5 authorized users to your Chase Freedom card.  And you’ll get the 5% bonus every time they use their card at a participating merchant!

Just remember to only add someone you completely trust.  They will be linked to your primary account, and ultimately YOU are responsible for any charges that they make.  So be sure to only add someone you know will pay you back for the money they spend!

Note:   If you add someone as an authorized user on your card, they can still sign-up for their own card later on to earn their own sign-up bonus.

5.   Pay for Others With Your Card

If your friend or family members plans to purchase something in one of Chase Freedom’s bonus categories, offer to cover the bill.  Especially if they’re paying with cash or a debit card.

Technology like PayPal and Venmo make it easy for folks to immediately reimburse you for the purchases you make.
