Even if you don’t have a trip planned, it could be worth registering anyway. Because it only takes a few minutes, and you never know when a travel opportunity might pop up! 🙂
Let’s take a look at the offer.
Choice Hotels Winter Promotion
With the Choice Hotels Winter Promotion, you’ll earn double Choice points on every qualifying stay. Up to a maximum of 30,000 Choice points.
For example, if the base rate (excluding taxes) for your stay is $100, you’d normally earn 1,000 Choice points ($100 X 10 Choice points). But with the promotion, you’ll earn an additional 1,000 Choice points, for a total of 2,000 Choice points (1,000 X 2).
To qualify, you must register for the promotion before your first trip. And the deal is valid for stays between December 15, 2016, and February 9, 2017.
You must also set your rewards earning preference to Choice points. And trips booked through 3rd-party sites, at vacation rental property locations, rooms less than $40 per night, and stays booked with the “SEGEN” rate code do NOT qualify for the deal.
Is It Worth It?
This offer isn’t nearly as good as their most recent promotion, where you could earn 8,000 Choice points (enough for a free night) after completing 2 stays.
But it could be worth registering (it’s free and easy), especially if you have an upcoming Choice Hotels stay. Because bonus points are better than nothing!
That said, it’s probably NOT worth switching paid stays to a Choice hotels for this deal, because there are better hotel promotions with other hotel chains. Like Hilton, Club Carlson, IHG, and Holiday Inn Club Vacations, where you can earn perks like bonus hotel points, airline miles, and free night certificates!
More About Choice Points
Choice Hotels has over 6,400 hotels worldwide, from very economical to upscale. So Choice points can certainly be worth collecting.
Oftentimes, you can find Choice hotels in small towns where chain hotels are hard to come by. Choice hotels are also usually family friendly, and many offer free breakfast.
With some of their brands, you can even use points to book a suite without elite status!
Plus, Choice points are easy to earn.
You can transfer AMEX Membership Rewards to Choice at a 1:1 ratio, although this isn’t the best deal because there are better transfer partners. Or transfer points from Amtrak to Choice at a ratio of 1:3, if you’re an Amtrak Select or Select Plus member (or spend $20,000+ per year on the Bank of America Amtrak World MasterCard).
You can earn double points on qualifying Choice hotel stays between December 15, 2016, and February 9, 2017, with the Choice Hotels Winter Promotion. Up to a maximum of 30,000 Choice points. But you must register for the deal before your first stay.
This could be worth it for some folks, especially if you’re already planning a Choice hotel stay. But I wouldn’t go out of my way to take advantage of this deal. Because there are other (better!) hotel promotions available, like those from Hilton, Club Carlson, and IHG, where you can earn better bonus points or free night certificates.
