Limited-Time Offer! 2 Free Nights With the AMEX Starwood Small Business Card!

Million Mile SecretsLimited-Time Offer! 2 Free Nights With the AMEX Starwood Small Business Card!Million Mile Secrets Team

Update:   One or more card offers in this post are no longer available.  Check our Hot Deals for the latest offers.

There’s a limited-time offer for the Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card from American Express, and you can earn 2 free nights to use at any Category 1 to 5 Starwood hotel after meeting minimum spending requirements.

To get the deal, you must apply by October 19, 2016.

Because this is an AMEX small business card, it won’t appear on your personal credit report.  So it will NOT hurt your chances of being approved for Chase cards.

But it isn’t as good as the highest-ever offer we saw on this card earlier this year.  And it usually makes more sense for folks to earn Starwood points instead of free nights.  So the regular offer for 25,000 Starwood points after meeting minimum spending requirements is a better deal for most folks.

I’ll explain why.

Through October 19, 2016, you can earn 2 free nights at participating Starwood Category 1 to 5 hotels & resorts worldwide after spending $5,000 on purchases within the first 3 months.

You’ll also get:

Note:   A few hotels may charge additional resort fees.

Plus you’ll have access to American Express OPEN discounts and AMEX Offers.  And you’ll get a subscription to ShopRunner, which offers free 2-day shipping from dozens of online stores.

Just remember, if you’ve had this card in the past, you will NOT be able to earn the bonus again.  Because American Express only allows folks to get the sign-up bonus ONCE per person, per lifetime on ALL their cards.

Is This a Good Deal?

The usual sign-up bonus for the AMEX Starwood small business card is 25,000 Starwood points after meeting minimum spending.  Although there was a best-ever offer for 35,000 Starwood points earlier this year.

So earning 2 FREE nights is a decent deal at Category 5 hotels, because they cost up to 16,000 Starwood points per night.  And with the 25,000 Starwood points offer, you would NOT have earned enough points for a 2-night stay.

For example, I found rooms at the W Chicago – City Center in October 2016, for ~$367, or 16,000 Starwood points per night.

Starwood AMEX 2 Night Offer
You Can Save a Lot by Using the 2 Free Nights From This Limited-Time Offer on the AMEX Starwood Small Business Card at Category 5 Starwood Hotels Like the W Chicago – City Center

Using the 2 free nights from the AMEX Starwood Preferred Guest small business card here would save you ~$734!

But to get the most value from the card’s free nights, you’ll need book an expensive Category 5 Starwood hotel that costs 16,000 Starwood points per night.

Earning Starwood Points Is Still a Better Deal

Some folks (like me!) might prefer earning Starwood points instead of free nights, because they’re more flexible.

For example, you can transfer Starwood points to airline partners like American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, British Airways, Emirates, and more at a 1:1 ratio.  And for every 20,000 Starwood points you transfer, you’ll get a 5,000 mile bonus.

Or you can use Starwood points for things like:

Plus, the normal 25,000 Starwood point bonus is enough for MORE than 2 free nights at Category 1 through 3 hotels, which cost 2,000 to 7,000 Starwood points per night.

What About the Starwood – Marriott Merger?

Following the closing of the merger at the end of this month, I do NOT expect any immediate major changes to either hotel chain’s loyalty program.  I’ve said that your Starwood points are likely safe until 2018!  So you shouldn’t have issues with the free night either.

Bottom Line

Through October 19, 2016, you can earn 2 free nights to use at participating Starwood Category 1 to 5 hotels after meeting minimum spending requirements on the AMEX Starwood Preferred Guest small business card.

That’s a decent deal, because you can use your free nights at Starwood hotels that would otherwise cost hundreds of dollars per night.  Like the Category 5 Hotel Bristol, A Luxury Collection Hotel, in Vienna.  Rooms here cost ~$355 per night!

Plus, applying for this card will NOT hurt you chances of being approved for Chase cards.

But it’s usually a better deal to earn Starwood points instead of free nights.  Because they’re more flexible, and you can use them for Big Travel when you transfer them to certain airlines.

And this is only a better deal than the usual 25,000 point offer IF you can use your free nights at Category 5 hotels, which normally cost 12,000 to 16,000 points per night.

Do you have a favorite Starwood category 5 hotel you’d recommend?  Let me know in the comments!
