That’s great news, because if you spend a lot overseas, using a credit card without foreign transaction fees can mean substantial savings.

Because the Chase Sapphire Reserve does NOT charge international fees, it’s a great card to use when you’re traveling outside of the US.  Using other cards that charge a 1% to 3% fee may not seem like a lot, but it can add up!

Plus, you’ll earn 3X Chase Ultimate Rewards points on travel & dining, even when you’re overseas.  And you are almost certainly spending lots of money on travel and dining when you’re on vacation!  Trying delicious new food is one of the reasons I love to travel. 😉

Do NOT Pay in US Dollars!

Usually the cashier will ask you, or the credit card reader will prompt you, to select your bill in either the local currency (like euros) or US dollars.

If you choose US dollars instead of the foreign currency, you’ll pay extra, in addition to the exchange rate and the foreign transaction fee charged by the bank.

Many American Express cards don’t charge foreign transaction fees, like the Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express, Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express and Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express cards, or any of the AMEX Delta cards.
