Yesterday, I wrote how you can save 20% off United Airlines round-trip award flights in the US.
Now, View From the Wing reports you’ll be able to save up to 25% off round-trip award flights to many countries in Asia, starting tomorrow, August 11, 2016!
You’ll have to book the discounted flights by August 22, 2016, for travel between August 29, 2016, and April 30, 2017.
I’ll explain more about the deal, including exclusions and blackout dates.
What’s the Deal?
Link: United Airlines
Starting August 11, 2016, you can get a ~25% discount on round-trip coach award tickets to many Asian countries. The promotion page isn’t live yet, because the deal doesn’t start until tomorrow.
You’ll pay ~52,300 United Airlines miles for award flights to China, Mongolia, South Korea, and Taiwan. These award flights normally cost 70,000 United Airlines miles.
And you’ll pay ~62,300 United Airlines miles for award flights to:
- Hong Kong
Flights to these countries usually cost 80,000 United Airlines miles.
There are conditions:
- Discount is valid for round-trip tickets only
- You must fly a United Airlines operated flight between the US and China or Hong Kong for the trans-Pacific segment of your trip
- Only coach saver award tickets are discounted
- Not valid for travel between December 9, 2016, and February 3, 2017
If coach saver award flights are not available for your desired travel dates, you still might be able to get the discount for part of your trip.
For example, you might be able to book a standard level award flight for your departure leg. And a discounted coach saver award flight for your return flight. Or vice versa.
You won’t save the full 25% this way. But you’ll still save some miles!
Need More United Airlines Miles?
You can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to United Airlines at a 1:1 ratio if you have cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Ink Plus small business card. Or soon with the highly anticipated Chase Sapphire Reserve card!
Or consider the United MileagePlus Explorer card. You’ll earn 30,000 United Airlines miles after meeting minimum spending requirements. I’d recommend waiting for a higher sign-up bonus on this card.
Just remember, Chase now has stricter approval rules. So if you’ve opened ~5 or more credit cards from any bank (excluding certain business cards) in the past 24 months, it’s unlikely you’ll be approved for most Chase cards.
Let me know if you’re planning on booking this sale!
