I buy Sam’s Club gas with a Sam’s Club gift card that I buy in-store with my Freedom card.

@Varun – Yes you need to have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Plus, or Ink Bold (no longer available) to transfer the Ultimate Rewards points you earn with the Freedom card to travel partners.

@Anthony – It definitely depends on how the charge is coded, so paying for catering isn’t a foolproof way to earn bonus points.

Catering may or may not be counted for a bonus. I guess it depends on the vendor and how they classify their services. If it’s a restaurant, it could go either way. It’s possible they code the bill under a different corporation name that’s coded as catering, rather than restaurant. My experience is based off using the Chase SP card though. Catering charges on that card do not trigger a bonus.

Don’t we need to carry a Chase Sapphire too in order to transfer those points to the said partner programs?
