Via RedditUnited Airlines will give you up to a 100% bonus when you buy or gift miles through August 15, 2016.

The minimum purchase is 5,000 miles, and you can buy up to 75,000 miles per account through this promotion.

Not everyone receives the exact same offer.  So you’ll have to enter your United Airlines account details to see the exact bonuses you could earn!

You Can Use United Airlines Miles to Visit Europe. But Buying Miles Isn’t Always a Good Deal, Even With a Bonus Promotion!

This promotion is NOT a good deal for everyone.  But I’ll show you who might benefit from the deal!

Earn a Bonus When Buying United Airlines Miles

Link:   Buy United Airlines Miles Promotion

With this promotion from United Airlines, you’ll get up to a 100% bonus when you buy United Airlines miles through August 15, 2016.

You must purchase in increments of 1,000 miles and the minimum purchase is 5,000 United Airlines miles.

And the maximum purchase is 75,000 United Airlines miles (earning a total of 150,000 United Airlines miles with the bonus).

Keep in mind, you’re limited to buying a total 150,000 United Airlines miles per year.  So if you’ve already purchased miles this year, you won’t be eligible for the maximum.

The bonus amount depends on the number of miles you purchase.
My account had the following:

  • Buy 5,000 to 14,000 United Airlines miles – 25% bonus
  • Buy 15,000 to 29,000 United Airlines miles – 50% bonus
  • Buy 30,000 to 75,000 United Airlines miles100% bonus

But another Million Mile Secrets team member has this deal:

  • Buy 5,000 to 14,000 United Airlines miles – 25% bonus
  • Buy 15,000 to 29,000 United Airlines miles – 60% bonus
  • Buy 30,000 to 75,000 United Airlines miles100% bonus

Note:   Purchased miles do NOT count toward United Airlines elite status.  And because the purchase is processed by, it does not code as a travel or airline transaction (so it won’t earn bonus points in those categories).

Is This a Good Deal?

Usually, United Airlines miles cost 3.5 cents each.  But with this promotion, you’ll pay between ~1.8 and ~2.8 cents per mile (plus a 7.5% excise tax).

This is NOT a good deal if you’re looking to buy all the miles for an award ticket.

For example, you’ll need 25,000 United Airlines miles for a domestic round-trip coach flight.

Depending on your personal offer, it could cost you ~$639 to buy 17,000 United Airlines miles and get 8,500 bonus miles (50%), for a total of 25,500 United Airlines miles.

That’s just as much (if not more!) as it would cost to buy a domestic ticket with cash!

But folks who are a little short on miles for an award flight might benefit from the deal.

Let’s say you’re 6,000 United Airlines miles shy of a round-trip coach ticket to Europe, that costs 60,000 United Airlines miles total.

With this deal, you can buy 5,000 United Airlines miles and get a 1,250 mile bonus (25%) for ~$188.

And spending less than $200 for a ticket to Europe is a good deal in my book. 😉

But always do the math to see if it makes sense for your particular situation!

Am I wrong, or is this a really good offer, if you want to fly LH first?
