New Routes Mean More Ways to Use Your Miles & Points!

I’m hopeful seats will open up on these new routes once service begins.  For folks in certain cities, that could mean more ways to redeem your miles & points, which makes them even more valuable!

1.   Increased Service Within the US From Baltimore on Southwest

It’ll be easier for folks in Baltimore to fly around the US this summer on Southwest.  I named it #1 on my list of cities with cheap flights.  And now here come even more Small Money routes!

From June 5, 2016, through August 6, 2016, Southwest will add an extra daily flight on Sunday to Friday to:

  • Denver
  • Hartford
  • Oakland
  • Orlando
  • Manchester
  • Tampa

Folks in Baltimore Will Have More Southwest Flights to Cities in Florida and the Rest of the Country This Summer!

And on Saturdays, there will be an additional flight from Baltimore to:

  • Hartford
  • Orlando
  • Nashville
  • Tampa
  • Seattle

Even better, these flights are available to book right away!  You can use your Southwest points to book any available seat.  And folks with the Southwest Companion Pass can bring a friend with them for only the cost of taxes and fees!

If you need more Southwest points, you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Southwest at a 1:1 ratio if you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Plus, or (no longer offered) Chase Ink Bold card.

2.   From Los Angeles to Beijing on Delta

Starting December 16, 2016, Delta will begin daily non-stop flights between Los Angeles and Beijing.

Visit Beijing for Chinese New Year! Delta Will Add New Daily Flights From Los Angeles in December 2016

The timing is perfect if you want to visit Beijing over the Christmas holidays.  Or if you want to experience the colorful celebration of Chinese New Year on January 28, 2017!

You can transfer AMEX Membership Rewards points to Delta if you need more Delta miles.  This could be an excellent way to visit Beijing.  Or a jumping-off point to see the Great Wall and other cities in China!

Note:   You’ll pay a fee of 0.06 cents per mile up to a maximum of $99 when you transfer points to US airlines.  So you’ll pay 60 cents per 1,000 American Express Membership Rewards points you transfer (or $6 per 10,000 American Express Membership Rewards points).

3.   Salt Lake City to London on Delta

Here’s another way to visit Europe!  Delta will fly between Salt Lake City and London beginning this summer.  And later this year, there will be 3 flights per week starting October 28, 2016.  And then 4 flights each week from December 19, 2016.

This is great news for folks with Delta miles!  Here’s how to use your Delta miles to book award flights to Europe.

London is a great city as a starting point to visit more of Europe on budget airlines!

4.   Toronto to Delhi on Air Canada

Air Canada will begin daily flights from Toronto to Delhi on October 30, 2016.  Currently, they fly between the cities 4 times a week.

Emily and I had a great time exploring Delhi (and eating there!).

Now There Will Be More Award Seats to Delhi on Air Canada!

This could be helpful for folks who don’t mind departing from or connecting in Toronto.  And especially for folks on the West Coast who will likely have to make a connection anyway.

Keep in mind Air Canada adds fuel surcharges to their award flights.  But you can use Chase Ultimate Rewards points to book flights to India with NO fuel surcharges.

5.   Fort Myers to Dusseldorf on Air Berlin

Air Berlin is expanding their service from the US again!  They recently added flights from Boston and San Francisco to Germany.  And beginning June 5, 2016, folks in Fort Myers will have an extra flight to Dusseldorf, for a total of 4 flights per week.

Start Your European Adventures in Dusseldorf! Emily and Her Friends Had a Fun Time in Croatia. Or You Could Visit Another European City, Like Brussels, Cologne, or Paris!

Many other cities, including Cologne, are easily accessible by train.  And of course, there’s plenty to do in Dusseldorf, like explore the Old Town, shop the markets (especially during Christmas), and visit the numerous city parks.

Or you could fly to another city, like Amsterdam, Brussels, or Paris, to continue your European getaway!

You can redeem American Airlines miles for an award seat on these flights.

You can also book them with British Airways Avios points or transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to British Airways.  Remember, Air Berlin also flies to Germany from:

  • New York (JFK) to Berlin or Dusseldorf
  • Chicago to Berlin
  • Miami to Berlin or Dusseldorf
  • Los Angeles to Dusseldorf

Once you get to Dusseldorf, you can continue to other cities using British Airways Avios points on Air Berlin.  Air Berlin’s destinations include Italy, Sweden, and Croatia, where Emily enjoyed gorgeous views and delicious food!

Let me know if these new routes inspire you to visit a new city this year!
