Update: The offers for the Starwood cards in this post have expired. But check Hot Deals for the latest offers!
Recently, the minimum spending requirement was reduced on the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express.
And now it’s lower on the American Express Starwood Preferred Guest Business card too!
I’ll tell you about the new spending requirement on the American Express Starwood Preferred Guest Business card. And remind you about valuable uses for AMEX Starwood points!
Emily and I don’t earn a commission for this card, but we will always let you know about the best offers!
What’s the Deal?

Via Free Frequent Flyer Miles, the minimum spending requirement for the AMEX Starwood Preferred Guest Business Card has been reduced from $5,000 to $3,000 on purchases within the 1st 3 months of opening your account.
This is NOT my link. But it’s an easier way to get the bonus! To apply, click here. Then click, “What’s New?” in the top left corner and scroll down.
Scroll down to 6/10/2015 Credit Cards and follow the link to apply. Once you’re on the AMEX website, click “Are you a business owner?” to access the offer.
You used to earn 10,000 Starwood points after your 1st purchase with the AMEX Starwood Preferred Guest Business Card. Then another 15,000 Starwood points when you spend $5,000 on purchases within the 1st 6 months of opening your account.
But now you spend $3,000 on purchases within the 1st 3 months of opening your account to earn the 25,000 Starwood points. (EXPIRED OFFER)
So you will NOT earn Starwood points after your 1st purchase. But overall, you’ll do LESS spending to earn the full 25,000 Starwood point bonus!
Along with the bonus, you’ll get:
- 2X points at Starwood hotels including Aloft, Element, Four Points, Le Meridien, Sheraton, St Regis, The Luxury Collection, Westin and W brand hotels
- 2 stay credits or 5 night credits toward Starwood Elite Status
- Terms & limitations apply
The $65 annual fee is waived for the 1st year.
Keep in mind, this card charges 3% in foreign transaction fees, but that’ll be eliminated on August 11, 2015.
The business version of the AMEX Starwood Preferred Guest has all of the benefits of the personal card. As well as a few others!
Beginning August 11, 2015, you’ll receive access to Sheraton Club Lounges.
And with the card, you can use AMEX OPEN savings.
If you’ve ever received the bonus on this card, you can only get it again if you have NOT had the card for at least 12 months.
How Can You Use Starwood Points?
Starwood points are valuable because there are hard to earn. And they’re flexible. For instance, you can book free hotel nights or transfer to a long list of airline partners.
The 25,000 Starwood points you earn when you sign-up for the AMEX Starwood Preferred Guest Business Card and complete the minimum spending is enough for 3 free nights in a category 3 Starwood hotel, like the Four Points by Sheraton in San Diego.
Plus, you’ll earn 5,000 bonus points when you transfer Starwood points to airline partners in 20,000 point increments.
And the 5th night is free when you book 4 consecutive award nights at Starwood hotels (except for category 1 and 2 hotels).
AMEX Cards Save You Money
You can earn statement credits on everyday purchases with your American Express card through AMEX Offers. Right now, there are offers available at Target, GroundLink, Google Play, and more.
And hopefully, AMEX Small Business Saturday will return in 2015 (no guarantees)! Last year, Emily and I earned $30 in statement credits for each of our American Express cards. That’s a lot of free holiday gifts!
You can now earn 25,000 Starwood points with the AMEX Starwood Preferred Guest Business Card when you spend $3,000 on purchases within the 1st 3 months of opening your account. (Offer is EXPIRED.)
Remember, you can only earn the sign-up bonus with the AMEX Starwood Preferred Guest Business Card if it’s been at least 12 months since you’ve had the card.
With a lower spending requirement, this is a good deal! Although some folks may want to see if there will be another 30,000 point sign-up bonus offer this summer. But there are no guarantees.
Emily and I don’t receive a commission for this card, but we will always let you know when there’s a better deal!
