Yeah, the best use of Ultimate Rewards points will often vary from redemption to redemption. Sometimes it's better to take the 1.25 cents per UR point and sometimes it's better to transfer points to the travel partner and book an award seat/stay. Plus, if you already have some miles/points with the travel partner, that can make the transfer option more compelling too.

thank you for the recap. I have a quick question about Chase Ultimate Rewards. You keep saying that the best deal is to transfer the points to the travel partners, hotels or airlines.. But I checked several deals and I just don't see it. The best deal seems to be to redeem points through Chase portal for travel getting 20% off. Let's say, trip to Florida. plane tickets are $260 (21000 redeemable Chase points) whereas the best deal for transferred airline points (United) was 25000. Same with hotels: room that goes for $180 (14400 chase points) will cost me 35000 points and up at IHG and other hotel chains. The only exception is Hyatt.
