If you’re thinking about booking travel on Delta this winter, they’re having a sale on coach class award tickets with discounts of up to 10,000 miles round-trip.  But you have to book by November 2, 2014!

You can travel between December 3, 2014, and February 18, 2015, within the US, and between the US and certain destinations in the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, and South America.  However, there are blackout dates, and you can’t book 1-way tickets.

Save up to 10,000 Miles on a Round-Trip Award Ticket With Delta’s Award Travel Sale

While low-level award seats on Delta can be hard to find, the discount applies to coach class saver and standard award (except southern South America) tickets.  And if you’re flexible with dates, you might be surprised at how many award seats are available!

What’s the Deal?

This sale is ending soon!  You’ll have to book by November 2, 2014, and travel between December 3, 2014, and February 18, 2015.

You can save 4,000 to 10,000 miles on a round-trip award ticket, depending on the destination and award level (saver or standard).  For example, a round-trip saver award ticket within the US only costs 21,000 miles with this deal (instead of 25,000 miles).

Here’s a list of included destinations and discounts:

Saver and Standard Award Tickets Are on Sale, Except Standard Awards to Southern South America (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay)

These prices are valid for travel on Delta and Delta Connection flights only, NOT for partner airline award tickets.  And the following blackout dates apply:

  • December 19, 2014 to December 24, 2014 (Holiday Season)
  • December 26, 2014 to January 5, 2015 (Holiday Season)
  • January 19, 2015 (Martin Luther King Day)
  • February 13, 2015 (President’s Day Weekend)
  • February 16, 2015 (President’s Day)

There’s a 7-day minimum stay required for flights to and from Brazil, Argentina, and Chile.  There’s a maximum stay of 30 days for any destination.

You Could Head to Santiago, Chile, for a Winter Holiday With Delta’s Award Seat Sale

And this promotion does NOT apply to these cities:

  • Caracas, Venezuela
  • Cancun, Mexico
  • Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Are There Seats Available?

I checked a few routes to see if there were still award seats available, especially saver award tickets.

Austin to New York

There are lots of saver award seats available from Austin to New York!  I might have to take Emily there for a shopping trip! 😉

Green Is Good! Lots of Low-Level Award Seats Between Austin and New York

A round-trip ticket costs 21,000 miles plus ~$11.

You’ll Pay 21,000 Miles Plus ~$11 for a Round-Trip, Saver Level Award Ticket Within the US

That’s a nice savings, especially if there are several people traveling!

Note:   Delta’s website has been very slow at times, possibly because of folks trying to book this sale!  So be patient if you have trouble searching for award seats.

Bottom Line

Delta is having an sale on coach class award tickets, but you have to book by November 2, 2014.  Travel must be between December 3, 2014, and February 18, 2015.  There are blackout dates around major holidays.

You’ll get a discount of 4,000 to 10,000 miles on a round-trip award ticket.  One-way tickets aren’t allowed.

You can book tickets within the US, or from the US to the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, and South America (with a few exceptions).

This could be a good deal for folks if you can find low-level award tickets.  But there are discounts on standard award tickets, too.

"...not available to any eligible markets on the following dates: December 19 through December 24, 2014, December 26, 2014 through January 5, 2015, January 16, 2015, January 19, 2015, February 13, 2015 and February 16, 2015." What good is this then anyway? Reminds me of the scene in The Jerk where the Steve Martin character is a carnival barker and tells the crowd what limited prize(s) they can win.
