How Do You Earn IHG Rewards Points?

There are several ways to earn IHG points:

And you can buy them through the Daily Getaways as well because the points from last week are still currently available!

You can get IHG points for 0.7 cents per point, if you’re comfortable using the cash and points trick.

You could also transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to IHG Rewards at a 1:1 ratio.  But you can get a much better value for your Ultimate Rewards points if you transfer to other partners such as Hyatt or United.

Bottom Line

At 5,000 points per night, IHG PointBreaks hotels are a bargain.  That’s because you are saving 5,000 to 45,000 points per night!

You have until July 31, 2014, to book your stay, but the popular hotels on the list sell out quickly.  So if you see a hotel you like, book it!   You can usually cancel without penalty if you decide to not take the trip.  But check the cancellation policy BEFORE you book!

Any chance you might know when the new list will be coming out for August / September?

Has the Crowne Plaza Bucharest, Romania sold out already — it’s not reflected on http://www.ihg.com/hotels/us/en/global/redeem-rewards/pointbreaks

Hi, Recently, one of my friends realized that Xmas came early. His IHG account was reflecting a balance of 69 million points due to some posting error. Just curious and wanted to understand experience of other folks who have seen similar crazy errors. Does IHG fix it shortly? Does it make sense to take advantage of the bump up and redeem for some fantasies immediately? If so, will they close down the account?

@Rac – They should eventually realize their mistake. IHG has closed accounts if they believe folks used points fraudulently.

@Ben depends on when you receive your card number so that you can use it and when you have your card’s statement close date. Usually if you complete your $1000 required spending within 7-10 days of your statement close, the bonus may not post until the following month’s statement, even if the regular per-dollar points post on the first statement. Keep in mind that you can always call though to change the statement close date.

If I were to sign up for the credit card now would I realistically get the points in time for the 7/31 booking deadline?
