Million Mile Secrets reader Alex commented:

Hi,

I have a question about point transfer to Southwest. I currently have quite a few Chase Ultimate Rewards points via the Chase Freedom card. I understand I cannot transfer those to Southwest. I am curious though if I can transfer those points once I get a Chase Ink card? I.e. is Chase going to allow me to combine the Ultimate Rewards points from all accounts once I get Chase Ink?

Thanks,
Alex

Transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards Points to Southwest Airlines

Yes, Alex can combine the Chase Ultimate Rewards points from his Freedom card with the Ultimate Rewards points in his Ink Bold or Ink Plus card.  Then he can transfer the Chase Ultimate Rewards points from his Ink Bold or Ink Plus account to Southwest Airlines.

Alex can follow my step-by-step guide on how to transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points from his Chase Freedom to his Chase Ink Bold, Chase Ink Plus, or Chase Sapphire Preferred account.

Alex can currently get a sign-up bonus with the Chase Ink Bold and Chase Ink Plus of 60,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points (up from the previous 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points), after spending $5,000 within the 1st 3 months.  And the $95 annual fee is waived for the 1st year.

After Alex gets a Chase Ink card, he can transfer his Chase Ultimate Rewards points from his Chase Freedom card to his Chase Ink Bold or Chase Ink Plus account, and then transfer them to Southwest Airlines.

How to Transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards Points to Southwest Airlines

Alex can transfer his Chase Ultimate Rewards Points at a 1:1 ratio from his Chase Ink account to Southwest Airlines.  And Chase Ultimate Rewards points usually transfer instantly!

Step 1 – Sign in to Your Chase Ink Account

To transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points, Alex has to log into his Chase Ink account.

Step 1 – Log Into Chase Ink Account

Step 2 – Click on “Go to Ultimate Rewards”

From his Chase Ink account, Alex then clicks on “Go to Ultimate Rewards.”

Step 2 – Click on “Go to Ultimate Rewards”

Step 3 – Click on “Transfer Points” or “Point Transfer”

From Alex’s Ultimate Rewards account, he would click on “Transfer Points” or “Point Transfer.”

Both will take Alex to the point transfer page.

Step 3 – Click on “Transfer Points” or “Point Transfer”

Step 4 – Click on “Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards”

Because Alex wants to transfer his Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Southwest Airlines, he should click on “Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards.”

If Alex wanted to transfer his Chase Ultimate Rewards points to a different transfer partner, like Hyatt, he would choose “Hyatt Gold Passport.”

Step 5 – Enter the Number of Points and Transfer Information

Alex enters the number of Chase Ultimate Rewards points he wants to transfer and his Southwest account information.

Step 5 – Enter the Number of Points and Transfer Information

Step 6 – Click “Confirm”

Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfers are final so Alex should confirm the information is correct.  If the transfer amount and transfer information are correct, Alex would click “confirm.”

Chase Ultimate Rewards points usually transfer instantly so Alex can sign into his Southwest account and make sure that the points are in his account.

Alex can transfer his Chase Ultimate Rewards points to his Southwest Airline account, but they won’t count towards earning his Southwest Companion Pass.  Instead Alex could transfer his Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt or Marriott first and then transfer to Southwest Airlines to count towards the Southwest Companion Pass.  But these transfers are NOT 1:1 and can take weeks.

Note:  Please be sure to read how to transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt and Marriott for important details about this method of earning the Southwest Companion Pass!

Bottom Line

Alex can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points from his Chase Freedom card to Southwest Airlines IF he first transfers them to a Chase Ink Bold, Chase Ink Plus, or Chase Sapphire Preferred card by following my step-by-step guide to transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards points from a Chase Freedom card.

Chase Ultimate Rewards points transferred to Southwest Airlines from his Chase Ink account do NOT count towards earning the Southwest Companion Pass.  But Chase Ultimate Rewards points transferred to Hyatt or Marriott and then transferred to Southwest Airlines do count.

my points are freedom regular card.

I really had to work to get the two sw cards.

How can I get my freedom or ink regular points to work for me?

Is it possible to ask Chase to give me a Bold card instead of a regular card? And carry over my standard ultimate points to the “premium card”?

I have very little grace left, it seems. If anyone can understand my position, Pls help. Thanks

If one only has the Chase freedom card, then the ultimate reward points cannot be transferred to an airline, right?

@bob – That’s true, but you can transfer it to a partner’s card (Sapphire Preferred etc. and from there to airlines or hotels).

@Hank- Can you please explain how you transfer 1:1 RR when using Marriott travel package? e

@John – You can, but it does’t count towards the Companion Pass.

Can I transfer UR points directly to my wife’s Southwest Airlines account?

If you chose a Marriott 7 day travel package the cost is MRP for 6 days(1 free) and then a 1:1 transfer to RR.
