Million Mile Secrets reader Dave together with other readers (thanks!) emailed me about a new 30,000 point offer for the American Express SPG card after spending $5,000 within 6 months.  But only for applications received by December 12, 2011!

This is a much better than the current offer of 25,000 points after spending $5,000 within 6 months and is similar to the earlier, limited time, offer in July.

I updated the link in the Hot Deals earlier so that you have access to only the best credit card offers but am blogging about it now.

Emily and I both applied for the card in July and it took a bit of work to get approved for the card, but that was mostly my own doing.

I like SPG points because I can use them for discounted “cash & point” awards and because SPG has some nice hotels to stay in.  30,000 points will get you 3 nights at a Category 4 hotel or about 7 nights if you pay 4,000 SPG points + $60 per night.

You also earn 1.25 airline miles when you transfer SPG points to select airlines in multiples of 20,000 points.

As always, you can find the SPG hotel award chart in the “Miles and Point Resources” tab on the blog.

Update:  If you recently got the 25,000 version offer it doesn’t hurt to call or secure message American Express to ask them to match the latest offer.  They haven’t been as accommodating as usual, but you won’t get anything if you don’t ask!

Bottom Line:  If you were considering applying for the SPG card, you can now get an extra 5,000 points if you apply before December 12, 2011.

Disclosure:  I don’t get any referral bonus or commission from American Express or anyone else for this post or for the links to the American Express SPG credit card in this post.

Hi Darius,

I just applied for the AMEX spg as it is held as one of the nbest reward cards fo nice hotel stays. they said a decision will be made in 14 days. i have a good relationship with amex and a very good credit score. This is the first time i am applying for the card. I recently a month ago applied for the delta amex. why do you think they stalled the application? How do i contact them and ensure everything goes smoothly?

Thank you in advance.

I read this post 10 minutes after I applied for the 25K Starwood card 🙁

I have not been instantly approved by asked to wait for up to 14 days. Do you think I will have a chance to upgrade my card to 30K if I call them before I get approved ? What is the number to call ?

Thanks and this is really a great blog. I only wish that I had started card churning much earlier. My rating has been near 800 for the last 2-3 years and I could have been a points millionnaire now 🙂

It looks like you went the same route as I. Sorry it didn't work out (yet)! In my message I used Darious' suggestions to emphasize my long-term relationship with AMEX (even though not with this card) and used the Social Media sub category. Also mentioned how excited I was to begin using my new card. Hope that can help.
