1.   20% discount on United award travel to select cities.

Valid only in select cities, and there are lots of restrictions, including a required Saturday night stay, but could be useful to some.

  • Book ticket by September 19, 2011
  • Travel between October 10, 2011 – December 15, 2011
  • Blackout Dates: 11/18, 11/23, 11/26-11/28, 2011
  • Saturday night stay required

If you have United 1K elite status, it may make sense to book these awards, even if you are not 100% sure of your travel dates) since you can always cancel them for no fee.

2.  Reduced mileage awards for Citi AAdvantage credit card holders.

Lots of readers have applied for and got the Citi AAdvantage 75,000 mile credit cards.

One of the benefits of these cards is the ability to book award travel to select cities for 17,500 miles in coach instead of the regular 25,000 miles or 42,500 miles in first class instead of the regular 50,000 miles.

This is not a list of typical vacation hotspots (Kansas City, my home airport, is on the list!), but it could save you some miles if you have trips planned to cities on the list.

This deal actually helped me out a great deal and arrived at the perfect time. I now have enough for the Costa Rica trip I was planning on Continental, with a free stop over in NYC from IAH, Thanks for the info!

So, can you fly from any city as long as you fly into a city on the list? For example, I should be able to fly from ORD to any of these cities (and then back) at this rate?

TIA!

@Shannon – I believe that they do work in reverse as well (but it is variable based on the agent you get on the phone). See post #328/9. If you get an agent who says you can’t, hang up and call again, or ask to speak to a supervisor. You do have to pay a $20 booking fee for booking over the telephone, though, since this can’t be done online.

@Melissa – You got it! You should be able to fly from ORD to any of those cities provided you can find saver seats available (which you can find on AA.com). But you have to call in and pay a fee to book the seats with the discount code.

Do you know if the city pairs work in reverse? I’m in ABQ, NM – Cincinnati is on the list for AA discounts and I’d like to fly my niece from CVG-ABQ …
