1.  Targeted Southwest Airlines 50,000 point offer

Reader Erik, writes in to share news of a targeted offer which he received from Southwest Airlines for 50,000 bonus points and a $69 annual fee.

If you’re thinking of applying for a Chase Southwest credit card, I’d recommend waiting (if you can).  That’s because Southwest just ended a similar offer for 50,000 points which was open to everyone, and earlier this year Southwest had a similar offer with 1 free flight and $500 in gift certificates.

I suspect that we’ll see a larger bonus from Southwest again.  This is, of course, speculation, but the 2 earlier offers together with Erik’s targeted offer, and Southwest’s merger with AirTran has me thinking that we’ll have similar promotions on the Chase Southwest Airline credit card again.

Another reason why you may want to wait is because Chase is getting pickier about your past credit card application history, and because once you get a lower bonus from Chase for a particular credit card, you most often can’t reapply and get the higher bonus (unless it is a different card product).

(Thanks to Erik for sharing!)

2.   Southwest announces new routes from Atlanta

Via Deals We Like and Wandering Aramean, Southwest announced new routes from Atlanta starting February 12, 2012.

This is good news for the Atlanta-based readers who applied for the Chase 50,000 point Southwest Airline credit card in anticipation of Southwest expanding service in Atlanta due to the AirTran merger.
