Update: There are no more free sign-ups or upgrades left.

I blogged some time back about a free upgrade to the beta credit monitoring service from Credit Karma.

This is different from the regular “free” version of Credit Karma, since this version includes email updates when your credit score changes and more detailed information on your credit score.

Well, there is a new link in Slick Deals offering a free sign-up or upgrade (if you are an existing Credit Karma user) to the enhanced monitoring service.

As of now, there are only 2,184 free enrollments left out of 6,000

Credit Karma gives you a proxy of your Trans Union credit score, and Trans Union is one of the 3 credit reporting bureaus in the US.

If you plan to apply for credit cards, it is very important to know your credit score.

I too had a 990 Vantage Score, but only a ~775 Transrisk score. I too figured something must be broken in their Vantage Score calculator for the #s to be so off from each other.

@Michael - If you have been churning cards, it is unlikely that you have a perfect score. I think they still have some issues, because my insurance score is "poor" but I've never had any issues getting insurance at low rates.

@ken - I didn't consider that Michael may be part of the 5% who have perfect scores!

@Greg - The scales of the scores are different, and the Vantage score assigns a letter grade, but I feel that something may be off as well!

@Michael 5% of consumers with a score have a perfect vantage score based on my conversations with them.

Nope. My Transrisk was about 100 points off the top. Nothing says "beta" like a perfect credit score.

Thanks for the tip!

I signed up - looks pretty good. But that VantageScore has to be wrong - I got a 990? I really doubt it, since my other scores were good, but nowhere near that good.

Million Mile Secrets

@Les - You're welcome!
@Michael - the Vantage Score is on a scale of 50 to 990, so either you have perfect credit or there is a bug in the beta version! The Transrisk score is on a scale of 300 to 850, which is the same scale on which the FICO score is calculated. Do you have a prefect Transrisk score as well?

grabbed one! Thanks!!
