View From The Wing and One Mile At A Time alerted me to a post from Frequently Flying about the potential of earning 100 free All Nippon Airlines (ANA) miles.

Why is this important?

Because ANA has the best free search tool available for searching for Star Alliance flights such as Lufthansa, Thai,  Swiss etc.

Free ANA Miles

ANA Search Tool Is The Best Free Way To Search For Star Alliance Award Flights

It is easier to use the ANA search tool when you have points in your account, because ANA restricts searches for award flights when you don’t have ANA miles in your account.

ANA imposed these restrictions because a lot of folks were using the ANA tool to only search for award flights, and ANA decided to restrict use of the tool to only those members with miles in their ANA account.

Now these is a workaround the restriction, but it is cumbersome and time consuming.

I will be writing a detailed set of posts on how to book award travel later, but using the ANA search tool will be key to successfully finding and booking Star Alliance awards.

If you have ever considered booking an award with Continental, United, US Air, Air Canada or any other Star Alliance partner you should sign-up for an ANA account and take the 15 question survey to earn the 100 ANA miles.

I’m not 100% sure if the miles will post to your account, but Frequently Flying, who first wrote about this is pretty sure that the miles will post to your account.

Here’s what you should do:

Step 1

Sign-up for an ANA Mileage Club account if you don’t have one.  Copy your membership number, because you will need it for Step 2.

Step 2

Take the 15 question survey and wait for the 100 miles to hit your account.

(Hat Tip to Frequently Flying via One Mile at a Time and View From The Wing).

Miles just posted for me (8/25 refresh of AwardWallet)! And just in time for redeeming an award using UA miles.

I also got their snazzy card in the mail – it’s like a credit card and is nicer than some of the cards in FFPs in which I have elite status.

@Pat – They’ve just started posting!

@Kam – Thanks. I’ll update the post!

@AK – Thanks for letting us know. Good luck with that award.

Survey is now closed.

Have these miles posted for anyone? I’ve had no luck. Also, what is the workaround?

Out of curiosity…what’s the advantage of the ANA tool over the Continental.com reward search? That one seems to pull Lufthansa, Thai, ANA, Air Canada, Asiana, United, Continental, TAP, TAM, and US pretty reliably without a login — and gets you Virgin. Is it just Swiss and Singapore that it’s missing?

@MileCards – ANA tool lets you search multiple dates, segment by segment, which is great for piecing together awards.

Thanks for the great tip of using ANA search tool. But I have trouble of how to use it after I visit ANA or Star Alliance website. I would appreciate very much if you could post the steps that how can I book flights using UA or continental miles through ANA or Star Alliance website. Thanks again.
