I shared how Costco Travel offers a fantastic way to save money and get extra perks for vacation packages.
But Costco members can also use the travel program to find great rental car deals. Most of the team at Million Mile Secrets book car rentals this way, including myself.
Because you can often find the cheapest prices. And reservations are flexible, so you can cancel at any time without paying a fee.

I’m not loyal to any rental car brand. When I rent a car, my biggest concern is finding the agency with the best price.
I usually rent the cheapest car, which is usually an economy car. Often times, I get upgraded to a compact or a mid-size car, because car rental companies don’t have a large stock of economy cars on the lot.
During my recent visit to San Francisco, I received my all-time favorite Avis free upgrade!

Million Mile Secrets Reader Joe tweeted:
Does the authorized user on a World Elite MasterCard enjoy the car rental agency status upgrade for Avis and Sixt? Thanks!
Good question, Joe!
If you are the primary cardholder of a World Elite MasterCard, you are eligible for free rental car elite status with Avis, National, and and Sixt!
Unfortunately, authorized users will NOT get elite status with these participating rental car companies.

Note: As of August 11, 2015, the AMEX Starwood Preferred Guest cards NO longer add foreign transaction fees!
Million Mile Secrets reader, Gary, commented:
I’m staying at the Sheraton in Port Douglas, Australia. If I use my Starwood Preferred Guest card there will I still get hit with a 2.7% foreign transaction fee? Starwood points are hard to earn!
Using the Starwood Preferred Guest card from American Express to pay for stays at Starwood hotels is a great way to earn valuable Starwood points. But you’ll be charged a ~3% foreign transaction fee when you’re outside the US.
Note: Starting August 11, 2015, the AMEX Starwood Preferred Guest card will NO longer add foreign transaction fees!
It’s Sometimes Worth It to Pay the ~3% Foreign Transaction Fee. But Usually It’s NOT!
I’ll explain when it might be worth it to pay the foreign transaction fee. And why it is usually NOT.

Million Mile Secrets reader Prem emails:
I recently reserved a minivan for our upcoming Florida vacation with Sixt through Sam’s Club Travel. When I received my confirmation email, it stated the Loss Damage Waiver (LDW), Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI), and other fees were included.
When I called them, they did not have more information on this, like the limits and exclusions.
They were even not able to confirm whether this is through Sixt or Sam’s Club Travel.
Do you have any information on these valuable goodies by Sam’s Club Travel?
Do Sixt Car Rentals Made Through Sam’s Club Travel Include Extra Insurance You’d Otherwise Pay Extra For?
I did some digging and can confirm that Sixt rentals made through Sam’s Club DO include these extras! Read on to find out more.
