I’m not loyal to any rental car brand. When I rent a car, my biggest concern is finding the agency with the best price.
I usually rent the cheapest car, which is usually an economy car. Often times, I get upgraded to a compact or a mid-size car, because car rental companies don’t have a large stock of economy cars on the lot.
During my recent visit to San Francisco, I received my all-time favorite Avis free upgrade!

I’ll show you my latest Avis free upgrade, the best I’ve ever had!
Last week, I wrote how Million Mile Secrets team member Keith was approved for the Chase Sapphire Reserve because of his Chase Private Client status. He anxiously awaited the delivery so he could start taking advantage of all the Chase Sapphire Reserve rewards!
One week later, the card was delivered via UPS. The Sapphire Reserve was in a regular envelope, as it seems Chase ran out of the special boxes they used to deliver the new cards.
The Chase Sapphire Reserve Card’s Look and Feel Is Similar to the Sapphire Preferred. But Some Folks Might Be Receiving Plastic Cards! I’ll Explain Why.
I’ll share more news about the Sapphire Reserve!

Million Mile Secrets reader Rather B tweeted:
What’s the best first no annual fee card for my military son? Bag fees aren’t an issue. But $3,000 minimum spending to get the sign-up bonus may be hard.
Thank you for the question, Rather B. And thanks to your son for his service!
American Express cards are a good pick if you are in a similar situation. That’s because American Express will waive credit card fees for members of the military, like late fees and over-limit fees!

I’ll explain how military personnel can avoid annual fees. And suggest other credit card options, too!

Does the authorized user on a World Elite MasterCard enjoy the car rental agency status upgrade for Avis and Sixt? Thanks!
Good question, Joe!
If you are the primary cardholder of a World Elite MasterCard, you are eligible for free rental car elite status with Avis, National, and and Sixt!
Unfortunately, authorized users will NOT get elite status with these participating rental car companies.

I’ve written a series on ways to spend less on car rentals and about using AutoSlash to monitor your rental reservations for price drops.
It can be more difficult to save money on 1-way car rentals. That’s when you rent a car at 1 location, but return it to another.
But some folks reduce the cost of a 1-way rental by using corporate codes published on sites like MapHappy or FlyerTalk.
Note: You should only use the codes if you’re qualified!
Want to Rent From Point A to Point B? You Could Save Money Using Car Rental Corporate Codes, but Be Careful!
I’ll explain how some folks are using these codes to reduce the price of a 1-way rental.
