Million Mile Secrets team member Jasmin visited Chicago with her 3 kids to see Hamilton – An American Musical. And she did NOT wait months for tickets or pay a small fortune!
She’ll tell you how she traveled with her family to Chicago using miles, points, and credit card perks for an unforgettable weekend of Big Travel with Small Money!
Jasmin: Thanks, D! My children are huge Hamilton fans! The soundtrack is in heavy rotation in our house, the kids know all the lyrics, and Lin-Manuel Miranda is their hero.
But tickets to the Hamilton productions in New York and Chicago are very hard to get. Shows are sold months (or years) in advance, and ticket prices can be incredibly prohibitive.
If You Want to See Hamilton – An American Musical, You’ll Normally Wait Months and Spend a LOT of Money
But with a bit of luck and the right credit cards, I was able to surprise the kids with tickets to Hamilton and a trip to Chicago as a Christmas gift – without breaking the bank. I’ll explain how!

Which card is better to use for an upcoming stay at a Hyatt hotel? The Chase Sapphire Reserve or Chase Hyatt Visa?
Thanks for the question! Both the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Chase Hyatt Visa earn 3 points per $1 spent at Hyatt hotels.
So it depends on what type of points you want to earn. However, I’d recommend paying with the Chase Sapphire Reserve if you have both cards!

Is there an expiration date for the free weekend anniversary night you get with the limited-time AMEX Hilton Honors Surpass offer?
The free weekend night you earn with the current Hilton Honors™ Surpass® Card from American Express offer must be redeemed for stays within 12 months after the date it’s issued.
This expiration policy is similar for other hotel cards with a free anniversary night, like the IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card and Chase Hyatt.
So to make the most of the free night benefit, it’s important to book a stay before it expires. Otherwise, you’ll miss out on an opportunity to save money!

My hotel points expire in April 2017. If I use them to book an award stay for February 2018, can I cancel the stay in January 2018 and get the points back?
Points in most hotel loyalty programs expire after 12 to 24 months of no earning or redemption activity. Although there are a few exceptions.
But reader Kris suggested a way to keep hotel points from expiring that works with some hotel chains. But I’d caution folks to read the cancellation policy before using this trick. Because you don’t want to risk losing your points!
The Best Way to Keep Points From Expiring Is by Booking Award Stays at Hotels Like the Hyatt Centric Chicago!
I’ll explain which chains work to use the book and cancel trick. And remind y’all some easy ways you can generate activity in your hotel loyalty account to keep points alive!

Ken and his wife Emily write about using points and miles (and saving money) on Disney trips at Mousehacking.com. So I’ve asked them to share their tips on booking Walt Disney World resorts with the Citi Prestige card to get the 4th night free benefit!
Ken and Emily: You can book Walt Disney World stays with Starwood points or Chase Ultimate Rewards points, but some folks choose to save their points for other trips and instead put their Disney stay on a credit card.
For the 3 stays we’ve booked at Walt Disney World in the past year, we’ve used the Citi Prestige. When you book a hotel stay of 4+ nights through the Citi Prestige Concierge, you’ll get a statement credit for the 4th night. However, starting July 23, 2017, the 4th night free credit will be based on the average nightly cost of your stay, excluding taxes.
This a great perk, and a terrific way to save money on Walt Disney World resort stays. We saved $1,165 on a split stay between Animal Kingdom Lodge and Beach Club on a recent trip to Disney from this benefit alone!

Let’s see how to book Walt Disney World resorts using the Citi Prestige 4th night free benefit.
