How to Earn Lucrative Sign-Up Bonuses Without Paying Annual Fees Out-of-Pocket

I’ve written why even thrifty folks like me should consider annual fee cards.  Because these cards often come with big sign-up bonuses and great perks that can help you achieve your travel goals!

That said, I understand folks new to our hobby might not be comfortable paying an annual fee expense.  Team members Keith and Scott remember feeling this way when they first started out.  And now they each have 8+ cards with annual fees.

But there’s a strategy you can use to earn valuable sign-up bonuses on certain annual fee cards without paying the fee out-of-pocket.

Joseph:   I always anticipate the new IHG PointBreaks hotel list every few months.  That’s because you can book hotels all over the world for just 5,000 IHG points a night.  And IHG points are easy to earn!

I was especially looking forward to this latest PointBreaks list, because it’s been a while since I’ve traveled.  I decided to let the PointBreaks list decide my next travel destination.

Do ALL Credit Inquiries Count Toward Chase’s 5/24 Limit?

Million Mile Secrets reader, Ryan, commented:

Does the Chase “5/24 rule” only apply to inquires for credit cards or also other loans as well?  I have 4 credit inquires in the past 24 months, including 1 loan and 3 credit cards.

Also, are there any free reliable tools to count credit inquiries?

Great questions, Ryan!

Only new credit card accounts count toward Chase’s “5/24” limit.  So if you’ve opened 5 or more new credit cards (from any bank) in the past 24 months, you will NOT be approved for most Chase cards.

The exception is certain small business cards, which do NOT appear on your personal credit report.

Additional credit inquiries for loans or declined card applications don’t count toward Chase’s 5/24 limit.  That said, all banks review your credit report.  And too many inquiries could impact your chances of getting approved for new cards.

Do ALL Credit Inquiries Count Toward This Banks Strict Card Limit

Understanding Chase Application Rules Can Help You Earn More Sign-Up Bonuses, Which Is the Fastest Way to Get Big Travel!

Because of the strict Chase application rules, I’ll explain why it’s best to get their cards first.  And remind y’all the easy way to check your 5/24 status.

How to Book Disney Trips With AMEX Membership Rewards Points

Ken and his wife Emily write about using points and miles (and saving money) on Disney trips at Mousehacking.com.  So I’ve asked them to share their tips on booking trips to Walt Disney World and Disneyland using AMEX Membership Rewards points.

Ken and Emily:  American Express Membership Rewards points are valuable because of their great flexibility.  And you can transfer them to 20 airline and hotel partners.

If you’re planning a trip to Walt Disney World or Disneyland, getting the most out of these transfer partners can be the key to saving Big Money!

In most cases you’ll get more value from transferring AMEX Membership Rewards points to airline partners than to hotel partners.  You’ll want to keep this in mind to avoid using your AMEX Membership Rewards points now on a hotel stay if you could get much better value out of them in the future.
