How to Use Flexible Points With Different Banks to Book Multiple Airline Tickets on the Same Flight

Million Mile Secrets reader, Ray, commented:

I have enough Chase Ultimate Rewards points for one round-trip flight to Spain.  But I would need to use my AMEX Membership Rewards points for a 2nd airline ticket.  Any ideas how I can use points from both programs for a trip for 2 to Spain on the same airline?

Excellent question, Ray!

The trick is to take advantage of airline alliances, which let you to use partner airline miles to book an award flight.

Ray can transfer his flexible AMEX and Chase points to airline partners within any of the 3 major airline alliances – OneworldSkyTeam, and Star Alliance.  So it’s possible to choose different AMEX and Chase airline transfer partners and still book 2 tickets on the same flight.

“What I Learned About Buying Infant Tickets on My Trip to Spain”

We often let you know about amazing airfare deals.  And Million Mile Secrets team member Meghan bought cheap tickets to Spain during one of those sales!

She was thrilled to get tickets to Europe for ~$456, especially from Missoula, Montana!  But learned an important lesson parents should be aware of when adding an infant lap ticket to her itinerary.

I’ll let her tell you about it.

Meghan:   Thanks Daraius!  Last November, I took advantage of the insanely cheap tickets to Europe.  But when I called the airline to add my infant daughter to my ticket, they charged nearly the same price as what I had paid for our adult tickets!

Use Southwest Points to Save Money on a Family Trip to San Diego

Lyn writes about Southwest for her GotoTravelGal.com blog and has taken her family to many destinations around the US, flying nearly free on the airline.  I’ve asked her to share some tips on taking a family trip to San Diego, one of her family’s favorite places, on Southwest Airlines.

Lyn:   San Diego was our very first trip where we flew our entire family, including me, my husband and 2 school-age sons, completely on miles.  It was quite an achievement to take that first flight, knowing we paid next to nothing out of pocket!

Do ALL Credit Inquiries Count Toward Chase’s 5/24 Limit?

Million Mile Secrets reader, Ryan, commented:

Does the Chase “5/24 rule” only apply to inquires for credit cards or also other loans as well?  I have 4 credit inquires in the past 24 months, including 1 loan and 3 credit cards.

Also, are there any free reliable tools to count credit inquiries?

Great questions, Ryan!

Only new credit card accounts count toward Chase’s “5/24” limit.  So if you’ve opened 5 or more new credit cards (from any bank) in the past 24 months, you will NOT be approved for most Chase cards.

The exception is certain small business cards, which do NOT appear on your personal credit report.

Additional credit inquiries for loans or declined card applications don’t count toward Chase’s 5/24 limit.  That said, all banks review your credit report.  And too many inquiries could impact your chances of getting approved for new cards.
