5 Excellent No Annual Fee Cash Back Cards

Million Mile Secrets reader, Lindsay, tweeted:

I have a Chase Sapphire Preferred card, but would like to get a new card to earn cash back.  Do you have any recommendations?

Many folks like to pair their miles and points rewards cards with a cash back alternative.  Because it’s easy to redeem cash back rewards.  And it’s always nice to have a little extra cash in hand.

Although miles and points can be worth more depending on the award, the benefit of cash back rewards is they won’t fluctuate in value.  So you’ll always know what you’re earning!

My Review of Chase’s New (Free!) Credit Monitoring Service, Credit Journey

Knowing your credit score is important in the points & miles hobby.  And Chase has just launched Credit Journey, giving anyone (not just Chase cardholders) free access to an estimate of their TransUnion score.

So folks now have another free tool to help keep tabs on their credit!

That’s important, because having a higher score improves your likelihood of getting approved for credit.  So you can earn more sign-up bonuses. 😉

Emily:   Hi everyone!  You know how much I like traveling.  Another passion of mine is shopping for locally handmade art and treasures in the places I visit.

To me, art is the absolute best thing to bring back home.  It’s so unique, and there’s soul behind it.  Of course, I also love bringing back small random gifts for family and friends.

The Difference Between Miles & “Miles”

Update:   One or more card offers in this post are no longer available.  Check our Hot Deals for the latest offers.

When you’re new miles & points, the lingo can be confusing.  Especially because there are cards that advertise earning “miles” that are NOT airline miles.  Like the Barclaycard Arrival Plus card that earns Barclaycard Arrival miles, and the Discover it Miles card.

And although the miles you earn with these types of cards do NOT transfer to airlines, they can still be very useful.

Plus, there are other cards that earn flexible points that DO transfer to airlines, like Chase Ultimate Rewards and AMEX Membership Rewards points.

Cards That Earn Miles

Smile! Even Though You Can’t Transfer Certain “Miles” to Airlines, You Can Still Use Them for Things Like Taxi Rides, Airline Tickets, and Airbnb Stays, Depending on Which Card You Get.

I’ll show you examples of cards that earn miles that are NOT airline miles, and cards that earn transferable miles & points.

Million Mile Secrets reader Rather B tweeted:

What’s the best first no annual fee card for my military son?  Bag fees aren’t an issue.  But $3,000 minimum spending to get the sign-up bonus may be hard.

Thank you for the question, Rather B.  And thanks to your son for his service!

American Express cards are a good pick if you are in a similar situation.  That’s because American Express will waive credit card fees for members of the military, like late fees and over-limit fees!
