Save Time & Money With Costco Travel Part 4: Cruises

I know lots of folks who love to vacation at sea.

Cruises are popular because there’s so much included in the price, like meals, onboard entertainment, and unlimited use of the water slides!  So it’s a great option for a family getaway.  Plus, many cruise itineraries include visits to multiple destinations.  And you only have to unpack once!

If you’re planning a cruise and are a Costco member, I recommend checking options on Costco Travel.  Because similar to warehouse club’s vacation packages, you can often find the best prices and get extra perks.  For example, a Costco Travel cruise might come with a credit to use onboard or an all-inclusive beverage package.

Reader Tip to Help Folks Use the Fewest Points for Airfare

Million Mile Secrets reader, NB, commented:

A word of caution for other readers.  Always check an airline site to see how many frequent flyer miles they are charging for a flight.  Because even with travel portal bonuses, you might still use fewer miles by transferring points directly to an airline and booking an award flight.

For example, I found Southwest airfare for $211, which would require ~16,880 Chase Ultimate Rewards points from my Sapphire Preferred ($211 cost of airfare / 1.25 cents per point) if booked through the Chase travel portal.

But Southwest was charging 12,601 Southwest points for the same flight.  So I instantly transferred Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Southwest at a 1:1 ratio and booked the award flight.

This is terrific advice, NB!

Some folks can develop certain habits when booking award travel and miss opportunities to save miles and points!

For example, I recently shared 3 examples of booking Southwest flights, which result in different values for your Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

And you’ll likely come across similar scenarios when comparing award flight prices on with other airline transfer partners vs. flight prices through a travel portal.

Avoid Rental Car Headaches With This Simple Trick

Million Mile Secrets reader, Elsa, commented:

When picking up a rental car, I always take a picture of the dashboard showing the mileage & gas level before I leave the lot, along with photos of the car’s pre-existing damage.

And reader David, commented:

I have always wondered how taking a photo would help.  Couldn’t a person just take the photo after they damaged the vehicle and say it was like that?

Taking a few quick photos before driving your rental car off the lot could save you time, money, and aggravation.

Because if the rental car company says you damaged vehicle or didn’t refuel to the right level, your photos can prove otherwise.
