Should You Keep the Southwest Card AND This Flexible Travel Card?

Million Mile Secrets reader, Susan, commented:

Is there a benefit to having both the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card and Chase Sapphire Reserve?  Our travel plans do not include any Southwest flights for the next 18 months.

Great question, Susan!

The only major perk you’ll give up by getting rid of the Chase Southwest card is the annual Southwest points bonus you receive on your card anniversary.

The 6,000 bonus Southwest points offset the card’s annual fee, which for some folks is a reason to keep the card open.

But you’ll earn more flexible Chase Ultimate Rewards points and get better bonus spending categories with the Sapphire Reserve.  And you’ll still have the option to transfer points to Southwest to book an award flight.

Don’t Leave Southwest Points on the Table When You Rent a Car!

Lyn blogs about Southwest Airlines at GotoTravelGal.com.  And  she offers her free “Step-by-Step Guide to Earning the Southwest Companion Pass” to help you quickly and easily earn the amazing Southwest Companion Pass, which lets 1 person fly nearly free with you for up to 2 years.

So I’ve asked her to share some tips on how to earn Southwest points when you rent a car.

Lyn:   Renting a car is a common activity for travelers who want an independent mode of transportation at their destination.

Whether you’ll be sight-seeing around a US National Park, driving along the Pacific Coast highway, or just want the freedom to stop at the grocery and explore a destination on your own time, car rentals can come in quite handy.

Did you know it’s quite easy to earn Southwest points every time you rent a car?  But NOT all the points you earn will qualify for the Southwest Companion Pass.

8 Ways to Stretch Your Southwest Points as Far as Possible

Lyn writes about Southwest Airlines on GotoTravelGal.com and offers a free guide on how to earn the Southwest Companion Pass, which Emily and I believe is the best deal in travel.  I’ve asked her to share her tips on how to make your Southwest points go as far as possible.

Lyn:   One of the best parts of collecting and redeeming Southwest points is the ability to book any flight any time with no blackout dates.

Unlike other frequent flyer programs, which release limited award seats and charge a set number of miles or points per flight, Southwest’s program sets the points required to book an award flight based on the current fare price.
