Review: Capital One Venture Card Vs. Capital One VentureOne

Y’all know how much I love getting Big Travel with Small Money by collecting airline miles and hotel points.  But sometimes there are blackout dates around my travel times.  Or there aren’t available award seats or nights on the dates I want.

If you prefer the flexibility of booking flights, rooms, and other travel whenever you want, the Capital One® Venture® and Capital One® VentureOne® cards are a better option than credit cards like the Chase United Explorer or Hilton Honors™ Surpass® Card from American Express, which earn miles & points that you can only use if there are available award seats or nights.

The Capital One VentureOne comes with 20,000 Venture miles (worth $200 in travel) after spending $1,000 on purchases within the first 3 months.  And the Capital One Venture card offers 40,000 Venture miles (worth $400 in travel) after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months.

I’ll show you what I like about the Capital One Venture cards.  But why folks new to miles & points might do better with different cards.

How to Fly to Japan in Business Class for ~$100 Round Trip: Part 9 – Flights to USA – Japan Airlines Business Class

Ever dreamed of visiting Japan?  Credit card rewards can help get you there for a fraction of the price!

Using miles & points, I recently flew round-trip from Austin, Texas, to Japan for ~$110 in Business Class.  The retail cost was ~$11,000!  And for 3 weeks of lodging (including some fancy hotels), I spent ~$450!

Japan is a beautiful country, filled with a lot to see and do.  You’ll find everything from high-rise skyscrapers to old temples and hot springs.  I loved Tokyo’s energetic neighborhoods, shopping, and delicious restaurants.  And Kyoto is a fantastic place to ride bicycles, and to explore the bamboo forest and monkey park.

Participating in a cooking class and meeting new friends was the highlight of Osaka.  And a day trip to feed the deer in Nara was unforgettable!  Plus, Okinawa is known for its beautiful beaches and scuba diving.

Why I Do NOT Agree With WalletHub’s 2017 Credit Card Report!

WalletHub recently released their annual Credit Card Rewards Report, comparing rewards cards from the largest banks.  They used measures like a card’s earning potential, how easy the rewards are to redeem, whether the rewards expire, and annual fees, to rank each card.

And you might be surprised at which bank came out on top!

But I wanted to share a more in-depth take on their methodology, because I don’t completely agree with their results.
