How to Meet Minimum Spending Requirements Paying Taxes

Update:   One or more card offers in this post are no longer available.  Check our Hot Deals for the latest offers.

It’s tax time again!  April 18, 2017, is the IRS filing deadline this year.

While it’s nice to get a refund, if you owe taxes, you can ease the pain of paying your tax bill by meeting the minimum spending requirements on a new credit card.  Or hitting a spending threshold to unlock bonus miles, points, or elite status!

Just remember, you’ll usually pay a processing fee of ~2%, so do the math to see whether it’s worth it.

New Partner: Is It Worth Transferring Citi ThankYou Points to JetBlue?

There’s a new Citi ThankYou airline transfer partner!  Effective immediately, you can transfer Citi ThankYou points to JetBlue.

The transfer ratio you’ll get depends on which Citi cards you have.  You’ll get a better deal if you have the Citi Prestige Card , Citi ThankYou Premier Card, or Citi Chairman (no longer offered) card.

This is also the first time Citi’s allowed folks who only hold no-annual-fee Citi ThankYou cards, like the Citi ThankYou Preferred Card and Citi Forward, to transfer their points to a travel partner.  But the transfer ratio is less favorable.

Thanks to Twitter user IAD Gr8 for tweeting us about the news!

Use This Free New Tool to Help Monitor Your Credit

I recently wrote about how everyone can get their Experian FICO score for free with Discover’s Credit Scorecard.

And now, via FrequentMiler, Experian released a credit monitoring app for iPhone and Android that gives you your Experian credit report for free!

The app is convenient and easy to use, because it will notify you if there’s activity on your report.  And it’s the only service that offers you unlimited, free access to your Experian credit report.

But don’t pay for in-app purchases, like FICO scores and reports from the other credit bureaus.  Because there are ways to get those for free, too!

I’ll explain more about why the app might be a useful tool.  And the other ways to get your credit reports and FICO scores for free.
