Does the AMEX Business Platinum Pay With Points Perk Work for Family Member Airfare?

Update:   One or more card offers in this post are no longer available.  Check our Hot Deals for the latest offers.

Million Mile Secrets reader, Jessica, commented:

Does the 50% points back Pay With Points perk with The Business Platinum® Card from American Express OPEN work for airfare purchased for family members who are not cardholders?  I booked a flight for myself, but need to purchase flights for my 3 children.  Can I purchase their tickets and get 50% of the points back?

Excellent question, Jessica!

The good news is the Business Platinum Pay With Points perk is NOT just for the primary cardholder.

As long as you use AMEX Membership Rewards points linked to your Business Platinum card, you’ll be eligible to get 50% of the points back after booking coach flights on your selected airline.  Or on Business Class or First Class flights on any airline.  It doesn’t matter who the passengers are!

This is a terrific perk for family travel because sometimes you can’t find enough available award seats when transferring points directly to an airline partner.

Which Airline Is Best for AMEX Business Platinum Pay With Points?

Update:   One or more card offers in this post are no longer available.  Check our Hot Deals for the latest offers.

Million Mile Secrets reader, Kim, tweeted:

Any advice on how to pick the best airline for The Enhanced Business Platinum® Card from American Express OPEN to get 50% points back with Pay With Points

Fantastic question, Kim!

Using AMEX Pay With Points with the AMEX Business Platinum card is a flexible way to book flights without blackout dates.  And you’ll get 50% of your points back for coach tickets booked with Pay With Points.  But only on your selected airline.

Plus, the AMEX Business Platinum $200 statement credit for airline incidentals only applies to your selected airline.  So this can impact your decision, too.

New Cheaper United Airlines Coach Fares – Are They a Good Deal?

United Airlines has introduced a new, cheaper fare class that will soon be available for purchase.

Via View From the Wing, United Airlines will begin selling their new “Basic Economy” fare in January 2017, for travel beginning around April 2017.  This new fare will come with a whole list of restrictions, including NO large carry-ons, seat selection, or elite qualifying miles.

I love it when airlines lower their prices, but not at the expense of basics like my carry-on bag or choice of seat.  That said, this could be a good deal for folks who just want the cheapest price.
