3 Things Everyone Should Know Before Purchasing Airfare Through an Online Travel Agency

Million Mile Secrets reader, Lynn, commented:

I purchased JetBlue airfare through Kayak’s Kiwi.com.  Will my checked baggage fees be the same as if I booked directly with the airline?

It doesn’t matter which site you use to purchase airfare.  Because the amount you’ll pay for things like checked baggage or cancellation charges is based on an airline’s published schedule of fees.

But there are other factors to consider when booking through an Online Travel Agency (OTA) like OrbitzExpedia, or Kiwi.com.

For example, depending on the airline, you might earn fewer miles on your flight if you don’t book directly.  Or you could accidentally book a “no-frills” Basic Economy fare without realizing.

One of These (Many!) Targeted Offers Is Worth ~$140 in JetBlue Flights

Yesterday I told you about a few targeted spending bonuses that were being offered on various Barclaycard cards, like the Arrival Plus and JetBlue Plus cards.

And now, folks have reported receiving offers on other cards too!  Including cards issued by Chase, like the Chase IHG and Chase Hyatt card.  And a different (but great!) offer on the Barclaycard JetBlue Plus card.

So it’s worth checking your email, spam, and snail mail to see if you qualify for any of these deals.

Most of these offers are 2nd quarter promotions, so the spending requirement will likely run from April 1, 2017, through June 30, 2017.  And most of the offers require activating your card, but there are a few exceptions!

Use This Trick and Save Miles on Domestic Tickets, Including Hawaii!

Update:   One or more card offers in this post are no longer available.  Check our Hot Deals for the latest offers.

Did you know there’s a way to use your Starwood points to get cheap award flights within the US, even to Hawaii?

When you transfer Starwood points to Singapore Airlines, you can book certain award flights on United Airlines for fewer miles!  Because Singapore Airlines and United Airlines are Star Alliance partners, and have access to each other’s award seats.  And sometimes they charge different amounts for the exact same routes!

This is a great trick to know, especially given the increased sign-up bonus on the AMEX Starwood cards.  Because you can earn enough for a round-trip coach ticket to Hawaii!

Through April 5, 2017, the Sign-Up Bonus on Either the Personal or Small Business Version of the AMEX Starwood Card Is Enough for a Free Round-Trip Coach Ticket to Hawaii!
