  1. Recently had two problems securing my 50,000 points from my Chase Ink Bold card; after I made the initial purchase I had to call them to get the 25,000 points credited and the person on the phone said “you have to call to get use to credit your account.” Never heard of that. Then I reached the $5,000 threshold and sent a secured email twice asking for credit and two different answers. One said I had to wait the 93 days from the date of activation of the card (WRONG) and the second said I had to wait until the statement was generated (WRONG) and one person on the phone told me I had to wait 2-3 billing cycles (WRONG); finally I got a Supervisor on the phone and said it’s “6-8 weeks after you met the $5,000 threshold.

  2. FYI, Citi Forward has changed for the worse. Need to update your summary above. Are existing cardholders grandfathered?

  3. Do you have a link for Chase Sapphire Preferred Master Card with a bonus sign up?
    Thank you

  5. I just tried applying for the 30,000 Citi Foward – When I push the link, the off comes up – However, the application doesn’t show up once I press an application link from there. Does this mean that it is expired? Or should I just wait a couple more hours and try again? Is it possible the system is just down?

    Thank you!

    • @Jan Ruiz – There is a link to the MasterCard version under “Daraius’ Tip” under the Chase Sapphire Preferred.

      @Christine
      – It looks like it may be dead. I’ll see if I can find another offer for the Forward.

  6. Discussion on fatwallet suggests that the main Forward (the 5x version) is discontinued and only the student version is available. Which is unfortunate.

  7. I went to cancel my Amex Business Card and they offered my 15,000 Amex points to hang onto the card since I have been a member of Amex sincer 04′ even though I have not collectively held a card that long. The rep said it would take 2-3 billing cycles to show, but the points reflected same day.

Do what you can to get yours!

  8. FYI, your Citi Forward link leads to an offer with the 30K bonus, but gives a bonus of only 2 TY points/$ (not 5) for use at restaurants, books, movies, music.

  9. I love my Chase Freedom credit card but they recently updated their policy for points. Now its done annually.

  10. Why is the Bank of America travel card not on here? Or Blue from American Express?

  11. Error: Citi Thank You Preferred is a 15,000 pt sign-up worth $400? That’s amazing!

    • @harvson3 – Thanks for the extra set of eyes! I’ve removed the Citi Forward and fixed the Thank You Preferred.

@bf – The link is dead so I removed it. Thanks for letting me know!

@Stephanie – Because they offer cash back. At some point I may have a seperate page for cash back cards.

  12. If I want to earn AA miles without actually flying AA, am I correct that the only credit cards that allow me to do this are 1) the various Citi AA credit cards and 2) the SPG card where I can transfer my SPG points to AA miles?

Any other ways to earn AA miles without traveling AA? Seems like AA and United are pretty straightforward in their online booking tools and don’t charge exorbitant surcharges like British, so was curious how I could increase my AA miles without actually flying them.

  13. It looks like they just updated the US Bank FlexPerks minimum spend. I see the following on the application page when I click on your link:

Enjoy an enrollment bonus of 17,500 FlexPoints when you spend $2,500 within the first five months.

    • @Vineet – Those are the only 2 easy ways to earn AA miles. You could apply for the US Air card and eventually it will become AA miles once the merger goes through.

      @Latimer – Thanks! I made the change.

  14. I do not think your Citi Thankyou Premier link is working.

  15. Just noticed, you don’t have the Ink Classic up there, but you do have the Cash. It can also transfer to UR partners, unlike the Ink Cash, without the need for a Bold/Plus or CSP.

If someone is all out of Business cards to churn, this would be a good one to get for an easy 20k points. Pair this with a Freedom and CSP and you get bonuses on almost every purchase. Gas, food, travel, tv, internet, phone, office supplies, plus whatever the bonus for the Freedom is every quarter.

  16. You’re correct, I mis-read one of their pages late last night/very early this morning.

Citi Bank changed its CITI THANK YOU® PREMIER offer 3 weeks ago. It appears that is is not offered online…and is available only in a branch bank. According to my banker, the incentive is 50,000 Thank you Points when you send $3000 in 3 months. In addition he said flights are offered at a 15% discount and the free companion pass could be used for international flights. However, the latter must be booked through Spirit Incentives. I’m considering their offer. However, there are many negative comments online re Spirit Incentives. Has anyone dealt with them?

    • @Tierrasanta_Traveler – Very interesting and thanks for sharing. Too bad there aren’t any Citi branches near me. You can book the flights online with Spirit Incentives. The rates charged are usually higher than elsewhere and they don’t have a lot of options, but you could still save some money. But 50K points is worth ~$665 in flights

  19. Is it better to apply for the Amex Business Platinum card with a 100K targeted offer or should I go for a Business Gold card instead and then upgrade to platinum later?

  20. hi Daraius

I recently applied for an Ink Bold card through your links and was approved for a $5k limit. Since I needed to make some high dollar purchases quickly, I kept making payments while making $7795 worth of purchases in the first month. My statement ending balance was $4293. Based on my purchases and bonus points, I earned 31,495 straight up but was not awarded the bonus 50k points for meeting spending requirements. I called them and they told me that I needed to wait the 103 days (promotion period to achieve spend) in order to get the points. Have you or anyone else experienced having to wait three months to get the bonus points despite having met minimum spend? Thanks.

    • @Gaurav – Thanks for using our links! If you crossed $5,000 in spending (the minimum spending for the bonus) just a few days before the statement closing date, the points show up in the next months statement.

  21. Answer to Vineet about earning AA points: why not get the British Air visa? As a one world partner, you can use your BA Avios point to fly AA. There are some great values in there short-haul flights. For example, it only costs 15,000 Avios points to fly return from DFW to LAS or FLL. It would be 25,000 AA points.

  24. D, Chase has a very serious glitch in their serious and I am very I didn’t bring it to your attention before the latest FTU so you could have metioned it to them at the latest FTU. When they you see on their webiste “Site Availability” notices, i.e. they shut down their websites for examples a Saturday night at 11:3pm to Sunday at 2pm the next day, they are really not just shutting down the website. They are shutting down the ENTIRE Chase credit card system.
You can call them during this period of time and get a live voice and they will tell you they can NOT access your account, even if you lost your card or if your card was stolen as “the system is upgrading,” and this happens at least one time a month.
Had this problem while out of town last month and thank god I had an Amex card on me, as always. You can’t run a mutli-billion, world-wide, bank/credit-card system like this. I would love to hear an explanation and response from upper management from them at your convenience.
    Thanks.

Darius, I already have several Chase cards including the sapphire so I haven’t paid attention lately for their offers for that particular card but was looking for a offer for my dad has no Chase cards. Is there not an offer for 50,000 points any more? This is what was available for a long time. I would love to get him signed up for the ink Bold and Sapphire for 50K each but don’t want to sign up for the 40 K if there is a 50K floating around. Should he sign up for both at the same time? Thank you Darius!

  31. I just applied for the arrival card and the response was that they have to review my application. My last Barclay’s app was Feb 25th. Should I call the reconsideration line, or just wait it out. I have applied for and recieved 3 other cards in Feb and just got approved today for Citi Gold Advantage World MC. I would really like the Arrival card since my son is getting married in Lake Tahoe in July and we will be staying at a non chain resort, so I would like to be able to use the 40K points to help pay for our stay.

  32. The $125 annual fee for the Citi ThankYou Premier card if you have a Citigold checking/savings account (minimum account balance of $50K, I believe). Does Chase offer anything similar as far as waiving the annual fee for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card if you do your banking with Chase?

  33. Can I transfer my AMEX membership rewards points to my wife’s Delta account?

  34. Thanks for your info. Applied for southwest 50K offer (getting Companion pass), Barclay’s Arrival card, Chase Ink Plus and Citi AA card for this AOR. Thank you very much… Used your links to apply.

  35. I just talked to Chase, and was told that sigh up bonuses, like 80,000 Avios, or 80,000 priority club points are once a life time bonus, meaning one bonus per cardholder per lifetime. Is that something new?!
    Thanks

  41. Can I get the bonus for the Chase Sapphire if I already have the Chase Sapphire Preferred?

  42. Hey Daraius, I think your Chase Freedom link for 10,000 UR bonus is actually two links. The first 2/3 links to an Ink application, and only when you click on the phrase Chase Freedom does it take you to that application. Just FYI.

  43. Is there a strategy on how toget both Sapphire cards, the regular & the Preferred (and their respective bonuses)?

If I open a Thank You Preferred card, am I eligible to receive the 20K mile signup bonus for that card ? Should I wait a period in between cancelling the Premier card and applying for Preferred card ? As always, thanks for your help and the great website.

  48. If I were to apply & obtain multiple credit cards, what would be best way to charge gift cards on those credit cards,. Than be able to load those gift cards onto a checking account, where I could than use that checking account to pay my monthly bills such as mortgage, my child’s monthly college tuition, etc.

Can those gift cards be deposited into a large bank (Bofa, Chase, etc) checking account, or are there special banks that must handle that. Thanks.

  49. Darius, I just was approved for the Sapphire Preferred. Once I meet the minimum spend and get the 40K UR points, what’s the drawback of downgrading to the free Sapphire version for the 2nd year to avoid the annual fee?

My card is up for renewal, and the rep I spoke with refused to waive the fee for a second year, so I’m considering dropping the card. I already have several points/miles-earning Chase and Amex cards. Do you have any thoughts on the value of keeping the CapOne? I’m debating whether to just cash out my 50,000 CapOne points into Amazon gift cards….Thanks for any advice you can offer!

  53. Daraius

I have 52,000 AMEX Premier Rewards Gold pts and plan to cancel the card. Thinking about transfering 30, 000 to make 10,000 AMEX SPG and selling the rest to http://rewards2cash.com/AMEX_MR?tracking=4f8fb6a3e7219.
Your take on this move? Thanks

  54. Thank you so much for your response. Is it worth it to top off my 52,000 pts on my AMEX Premier Rewards Gold to 60,000pts with $8000 of expenses . Note that 60,000 AMEX pts transfers only to 20,000 SPG which yield 25,000 miles on airline partners such as AA.
Another question: I remember reading on your site “If you earn 5X Ultimate Rewards Points on only $2000 per month (paying rent with Bluebird)………..
Where can I earn 5X Ultimate Rewards Points?

    • @do it – I wouldn’t transfer AMEX points to Starwood because you lose a lot of them. You could use the pay with points feature to get at least 1 cent per point for flights or more with some strategic air partners. You used to be able to buy Vanilla Reloads at Office Supply stores, but that is no longer available.

  55. Thank you so much for your response. I want to cancel my AMEX Gold prmier to avoid the $175 annual fee but not lose the points. I am sure you have figured that out .

Would you recommend using this or waiting to apply a year after canceling my gold card with may a higher sign up bonus? How high does the sign up for this card go? Thanks for your thoughts.

  60. Thanks Daraius, I might do that. Also applied for the BA card with your links and got instant approval. Thanks.

  61. I (and my spouse) have 2 Amex premier reward golds. Coming up soon is the annual fee that I need to cancel. We have used most of the rewards but still have 7,000 points on one and 6,000 on the other. I don’t know how best to use those points up quickly (without actually traveling, right now) or should I apply for the business version? • james – You can transfer them to certain hotels and airlines, but many of their airline partners charge fuel surcharges for international flights. That said, the 75K offer is good and you’d get at least $750 in flights through the AMEX portal, so it isn’t a bad deal!

  67. Hi Daraius,

My wife has an Ink Plus and Freedom. The Ink Plus is now due for an annual fee and we don’t need the card as I have one anyway that I will keep. If she moves all her points to my account, cancels her Ink Plus and keeps the Freedom card, what happens when she then earns more Freedom points? I know she can’t transfer them to hotels or airlines, but:
    1) can she transfer them to me;
    2) can she later (perhaps in a year) get, say, another Sapphire Preferred (she had one once but maybe she could get another one day, or even a new Ink Preferred) and then transfer those Freedom points to airlines and hotels again?

  68. My question has been answered:
    1) can she transfer them to me – is correct.

  69. I recently read an article that said that AmEx would exempt Active Duty Military members from the annual fees on their credit cards. Thinking this too good to be true, I called up the number on the back of my Delta Gold AmEx and asked the rep about their military program and the rep said that it might take 4-6 weeks before the account would update. That was 3 weeks ago.
Today I received a latter from AmEx stating they had indeed reversed the annual fee they had charged me the month prior, but also for the preceding year as well. On top of that they had reduced my APR to 0% for any existing charges (too bad I didn’t have any) and 6% for future purchases. What nice guys.
Do you think AmEx would also waive the hefty $475 fee that comes with the Mercedes Platinum? I haven’t applied because of the huge annual fee.

  93. So I received an offer in the mail today for a Chase Sapphire Preferred card with a Bonus of 40,000 points and 5000 points for adding an additional customer. The only difference between this offer and others out there is the minimum spend. My offer is $2000 in the first 3 months. vs. $3000. I had one of these cards for a while in 2012/2013 but cancelled it, frankly because I didn’t like the stainless steel card and I got to many questions and refusals due to the card design, especially overseas. I wonder why they send me these offers because is says in the terms that the bonus is only for first-time card members. It also has this interesting statement in the terms ..”Chase cardmembers who currently have or have had a Chase credit card in any Rewards Program associated with this offer or have received a similar bonus offer, may not be eligible for a second Chase credit card in the same Rewards Program, or for any bonus offer. Chase cardmembers currently receiving promotional pricing, or Chase cardmembers with a history of only using their current or prior Chase card for promotional pricing offers, are not eligible for a second Chase credit card with promotional pricing.” Doesn’t this mean that I can never get this card again. Also, is it saying that “churners” who only get cards for the bonuses will be denied? Thoughts anyone?
