Blog Giveaway 9000 Starwood Points

Starwood Points Are on Sale! Use Them to Fly to a Beautiful Island – or for Hotel Stays Once You’re There!

I’ll show you how to enter!

Through June 30, 2017, you’ll get 35% off when you purchase (or gift!) 5,000+ Starwood points.

With the 35% savings, you can buy 20,000 Starwood points for $455.  You can transfer those points to a Starwood airline partner at a 1:1 transfer ratio, and receive a 5,000 mile bonus!  So this is like buying airline miles at rate of 1.8 cents each ($455 / 25,000 airline miles).

You can use 25,000 miles for a round-trip coach ticket within the US on airlines like American Airlines and Delta.  So if $455 is LESS than the cash price you’d pay for a ticket, this deal would make sense.

Enter this contest for a chance to win 9,000 Starwood points!

Starwood points are very flexible.  You can use them for lots of things, like hotels, flights, and Amtrak!

I want to know the most money you’ve saved with Starwood points.  What’s the best value you’ve received from them and how?  Or, if you haven’t redeemed Starwood points yet, what would you like to spend them on?

For example, I used 4,000 Starwood points to stay at the ITC Rajputana, a room that costs ~$130 per night, for a value of ~3.25 cents per point ($130 stay / 4,000 Starwood points)

Team member Keith used 120,000 Starwood points to stay 5 nights at the St. Regis Bali, which would have otherwise cost $4,205, giving him a value of ~3.5 cents per point ($4,205 stay / 120,000 Starwood points).

And team member Joseph transferred 20,000 Starwood points to Korean Air for a round-trip coach ticket from Cincinnati to Maui, a ticket that would have cost $1,000+, giving him a value of ~5 cents per point ($1,000 flight / 20,000 Starwood points).

You MUST click this linked post & comment with your answer on that post (don’t comment on this post!).

You can also complete as many of the other tasks as you want.  You’ll get 1 entry for each item you complete.  But your entries only count if you complete the first step.  The more ways you enter, the more chances you have to win!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

You can enter until June 18, 2017, (Sunday) at 9:00 pm Central Time.

Good luck!

  13. My most memorable and best value redemption for my SPG points was our 5 night stay at the Westin Excelsior in Florence, Italy. We took advantage of the 5th night free. We used 80,000 and were upgraded to a deluxe king riverfront room. The points saved us roughly $3,275.

  14. Agree with others about the confusing link to a Southeast post…. But, I’m saving Starpoints for a trip to Hawaii – probably transfer to Korean Air for flights.

  15. Michael H.(oldfox)

The link took me to the Southwest blog where I commented about using SPG points…………..I got about 3.5 cents per point on a SPG hotel weekend reward at a fantastic resort near Vilnius, Lithuania.

  16. We are going on a trip for our birthday in August for the Barcelona part of the trip we are staying Le Meridien Barcelona. It is normally 20,000 SPG points a night. We are staying 5 nights so we will get the 5th night free. The total points used is 80,000 which is 16,000 a night. The deluxe room with taxes is $420. Total $2100 saved.

  17. Ohhh- I’ve been reading your blog for years- and I don’t know how to answer this! I LOVE Disney trips, and I have been able to take my family on yearly,7-8 night visits using only Starwood points for our hotel- at 8,000 points per night, (stay 4,get 5th free) we stay ON Walt Disney World Property, in the middle of all the magic-with FANTASTIC views of the parks and scenery. Our stays are valued at approx. $350 per night- but we always use points, and for our family, it’s the BEST way to use our SPG points. We’ve had many wonderful visits over the years as the kids grew up,and plan for many more. There are other ways to get more ‘bang for your points’ -I know this, but for me the first rule of the travel hacking game is “my points are most valuable to ME wherever we really want to use them.” For us,that’s incredible value! **** I also posted this on the linked post, though not sure why we had to post it there also***

  18. Transferring starwood to marriott for vacation package and companion pass earlier this year.

  19. We had a family emergency in the UK and transferred Starwood points to Avois, fortunately, the transfer happened quickly and we saved a fortune not having to pay last minute ticket prices. Starwood points are incredibly flexible and the 5000 point bonus for transfers is the icing on the cake.

  20. Still deciding how to spend my Starwood points!

  21. I transfered 2500 Starwood points to get 7500 Marriott points and booked the TownePlace Suites Clinton at Joint Base Andrews (then Cat 1) last February for staying earlier this month (now Cat 2). The rate was $150+tax per night. So that was more than 6 cents/point for me.

  22. Redeemed the Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort Villas & Spa, Cancun for 5 nights using 46,000 points (5th night free) for spring break. All-in cash price would have been over $2,000!

  23. Biggest value I’ve used them for is a transfer to Marriot to then use the hotel plus air package with Southwest. 7 free nights and a companion pass!

  24. We used Starwood points for 2 nights at W Santiago for New Year’s Eve, each night wpuld have otherwise cost us $400.

  25. I would love to spend Starwood points in Germany!

  26. I used 20,000 Starwood points to book a Friday and Saturday night at the Westin Portland Harborview, for my cousins wedding. The room would have cost $485 per night due to the fact that the booking was at the peak of of the season (early Aug). I’d say 4.85¢ Is the best redemption rate I’ve received for any program. Now to see if they’ll honor my gold status when we get there

  27. I use SPG for low level rooms, stretch those points out. Best use thus far was to transfer to Marriott for 2 week vacation in Mexico.

  28. I am staying at a Starwood property for work and saving about 30% on retail pricing. Property is definitely several levels above other brands in the area. Very happy with Starwood.

  40. I used Starwood points in March to transfer to Marriott, then from Marriott points a transfer to United to buy a round trip ticket to Calgary when my brother passed away suddenly. I was so grateful to have those points to make it work since I didn’t have any United miles at the time. I would LOVE more Starwood points!

  41. I never used SPG points for hotel stays, but transferred to airlines. Love the 25% bonus on 20,000 point transfers. I would love to stay at St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort.

  42. I actually used some for a late night, last minute hotel stay near MSP. Only cost 3k points for a $120 room, so 4 cents a point! Not the sexiest redemption, but one of my highest values. I love using them for last second tier 2 properties if I’m in a crunch!

  43. The ” your entries only count if you complete the first step ” link takes you to a post on Southwest, but I put my comment there since it’s required to complete the remaining entries.

Haven’t redeemed my SPG points yet, but plan to transfer to an airline for future travel to Asia.

  54. I’ve redeemed 12,000 points a night for the Westin St. John. I think the hotel was $500-600 per night.

  55. I’ve used it for graduation trips. They aren’t the best hotels, but during graduation weekends, I’ve saved so much money on hotels.

  56. I did a shanghai trip and used points for the nights.. $200/night but instead cost me 40k in points..

  57. Used them for Stay at Lasvegas NV… 3,000 $ per night saving over 150 $ per night…Felt that can’t get better value than this…

  58. I’ve yet to redeem my star points in a big way. Currently I’m saving them up in hopes to get 5 nights in a water bungalow or beachfront cottage at the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort. Unless there’s a sweet deal for the nicer SPG hotels on Maldives.

  60. We have used our SPG points at the Westin St Johns and the Westin Maui. Great times.

  62. We used 48,000 pts to stay at the St. Regis Bangkok for 5 nights receiving a Suite Upgrade at this beautiful property. They usually go for $475-500/night resulting in about 5 cents/point and saving close to $2500–we love Starwood!

  63. I used 48000 SPG points to stay 5 nights ( the fifth night free ) at Hotel Bristol, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Vienna. The room cost $430/ night, giving me the value of ~4.5 cents per point. On top of that, I really enjoyed the luxurious room, the atmosphere of the hotel and the location
( next to the Vienna State Opera and close to everything ).

  64. I transferred 105000 Starwood points to Alaska airlines. Adding that to my existing Alaska airlines points I had 180000. I used that to get 2 Emirates 1st class A380 from LAX to Dubai in February of this year. I got in just before the major devaluation. Air fare when I booked was about $25000 per person. So I figure I got 28 cents per Alaska mile. And, maybe 35 cents per Starwood point since I got 25% bonus for most of the points I’ve transferred. That’s my record so far.

  65. Shoot, I forgot. The Emirates flight was actually LAX to Maldives with a 3 day layover in Dubai. 1st class to Maldives was not on a380 but it was still an excellent 1st class experience.
