Blog Giveaway 6000 Delta Miles March 2017

You Can Transfer AMEX Membership Rewards Points to Valuable Partners, Like Delta, for Free Flights to Visit Quaint European Towns

I’ll show you how to enter!

Lots of changes are coming to The Platinum Card® from American Express.  Starting March 30, 2017, you can expect:

  • An increased $550 annual fee
  • $200 yearly Uber credit
  • 5X AMEX Membership Rewards points on hotels booked through AMEX Travel
  • 5X AMEX Membership Rewards points on airfare booked through AMEX Travel

And a few more changes, like a new metal card design, and the ability to add additional Gold authorized user cards to your account for no fee.  And don’t worry, existing card benefits are sticking around.

The question is, are these new benefits worth the increased $550 annual fee (up from $450)?  If you use Uber consistently throughout the year, or if you’re willing to book hotels and airfare through AMEX Travel, this could be worth it for you.  AMEX Membership Rewards points are valuable, because you can transfer them to lots of great travel partners, like Air Canada and Delta.

If you enter this contest, you have a chance to win 6,000 Delta points!

  1. I don’t like the increase in annual fee from $450 to $550.

  2. Politics of Uber aside, I think the Uber credit is pretty substantial.

  3. I plan to keep the Personal Plat. I save enough with the airline credit and Amex Offers to justify the annual fee.

  4. I ‘m still not sure how I feel about the changes, however the if the UBER was just a flat credit that would be MUCH better then 15/ month!

  5. I think they should take the Uber credit off the annual fee.

  6. I think the Uber credit is well worth the increase in annual fee!

  7. IF you don’t live in or frequent a metropolitan area the uber benefit is likely not very useful.

  8. new annual fee is excessive.

  9. I don’t use Uber that often so the card is not for me!

  10. Not sure I would get enough benefits for the $550 fee

  11. There really isn’t anything too exciting about this card.

  12. Change is not always a good thing

  13. Should have been a flat credit. AMEX is too complicated while Chase nailed it with their Sapphirec Reserve card.

  14. I don’t live in a large metropolitan area so I would not benefit from the increase.

  15. $100 increase is way too much. for way too little!

  16. Bill from Maine

I signed up last year when there was a 100K offer and $450 AF. I thought that was a great deal and I have taken advantage of a couple of the benefits but quite frankly can’t justify the extra $100 so will cancel the card.

  17. That’s a really high annual fee….

  18. Generally do not need to use Uber, so the changes do not offer much value to me.

  19. The fee on the Amex Platinum card is high, but there are some good benefits, like the number of points on hotels and airlines.

  20. The benefits do not offset the increased annual fee. Not good enough to sway me over the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

  21. Not with the annual fee raised that much…Uber credit doesn’t off set it.

  22. I think the Uber credit is well worth the increase in annual fee

  23. Like the uber credit.

  24. Interesting changes…don’t think necessarily worth increase in annual fee

  25. $100 more a year not good.

  26. Wow. That annual fee is just nuts!

  27. Don’t think that things like Uber will be worth the added fees.

  28. Wow I could use some delta points for an upcoming trip to Maui!

  29. Don’t like the annual fee jump. Feel the CSR is better value

  30. Some good and some bad – a mixed bag.

  31. The new annual fee is too much

  32. Can’t justify the $550 annual fee.

  33. New annual fee is a lot. The uber credit isn’t flexible as it should be. It should be a annual credit of $200 which would offset the annual fee

  34. Not sure if the benefits are worth the cost. For me.

  35. Very high annual fee !!!

  36. Uber credits doesn’t justify the increased annual fees (As someone who deleted Uber)

  37. I have no use for Uber where I live, so that’s not a benefit for me.

  38. The Uber benefit makes up for the increased AF.

  39. I am an uber fan!

  40. You really need to stay on top of your Uber usage to make the fee worth it.

  41. I wish the same changes that are coming to the Amex Personal Platinum were also coming to the Amex Business Platinum as well!

  42. Don’t like the increase in annual fee.
