A few days ago I told you about a cheap way to buy British Airways Avios points by signing-up for a Match.com or eHarmony account.

But now, via One Mile at a Time, lots of folks are having complications with this method!

It’s Complicated – Match.com and eHarmony Are Backing out on Their Promise

I’ll tell you what we know so far!

What’s Up With the British Airways and Match.com and eHarmony Deal?

Link:   Earn ~82,000 British Airways Avios Points With Match.com

For folks who jumped on the offer for bonus British Airways Avios points for signing-up for Match.com and eHarmony through the British Airways shopping portal, lots of things are going wrong!

Some are only receiving about half the bonus British Airways Avios points they expected to receive.  Others are getting membership cancellation notices from Match.com.  And some folks are being refused a refund!!

This is NOT right.  But this isn’t the first time we’ve seen companies change their minds after publishing a great deal.  This is the reason I always recommend folks take a screenshot of each deal, so there is always proof!

What Can You Do?

If you have NOT received a cancellation notice, it’s easy to file a claim for missing British Airways Avios points.  Just go to this page and sign-in to your British Airways account.  You can then enter your order’s details, write a description of your problem, and upload your screenshots or receipts.

Always Save Your Receipts and Screenshots! It Will Come in Handy for Situations Like This

And if you aren’t getting a refund on your membership order, you should be able to contact each website directly with screenshots to dispute their action.  Or file a complaint with your credit card company.

Match.com and eHarmony both pride themselves on their trustworthiness and integrity of their site.  And that could very well be the reason they don’t want a bunch of folks signing-up for their services who aren’t interested in improving that community.

If that’s the case, they should NOT have offered 130+ British Airways Avios points per $1 to join!  They severely underestimated what folks will do to get Big Travel with Small Money!

Bottom Line

Match.com and eHarmony are having a hard time parting with the British Airways Avios points they promised folks who signed-up for their sites through the British Airways shopping portal!  Some folks are getting fewer British Airways Avios points, and some are getting membership cancellation notices!

These dating websites are not making a good first impression on folks in the miles & points community!  Broken promises and betrayal are not the key elements I’d look for in a dating website.  😉

Did you participate in this deal?  If so, did you get a membership cancellation and refund, or did you receive your British Airways Avios points?  I’d love some more data points!

  1. What was expected?
Obviously too good to be truth!
We r happy we live in developed countries where you can actually assure cc chargeback.

  2. Got a cancellation from eHarmony March 7th, which is funny, because I’m actually in the market and truthfully completed my profile, including uploading legit photos and filling in their entire on-boarding questionnaire.

  3. I purchased a 1 year subscription to eharmony.com for approximately $165. The only payment option available was 3 pymts of $55. Tracking on my BA account shows a pending award of 7,256 avios which would only account for 1 of the 3 payments. I used an Amex card in case eharmony.com doesn’t hold up their end of the bargain, but I’m approaching the eharmony.com three business day refund limit. I have a screenprint of the offer. I’m not sure how to proceed, – should I wait to see what happens when pending status evolves to something else, or would another approach be better? I’d welcome any constructive advise/suggestions. Thank you

    • You likely will NOT get the rest of your British Airways Avios points for your 2nd and 3rd payments. This should have been 1 big transaction up front instead of 3 smaller ones.

I’d cancel while you still have the opportunity. And I’m curious if other readers had the same experience!

  4. Got match money refunded. Did not want the membership, did not fill out any details in profile.

  5. EHarmory canceled without refund. Avios still show pending. I’m giving it a little time to see if Avios are credited. Otherwise I’m going to fight for a refund. I don’t care about the cancelation if I get the Avios.

  6. Signed up on Mar 4 for eHarmony. Cancelled on Mar 6. No refund so far. Will have to fight it with Chase.

  7. Signed up for eHarmony on March 2nd, I was careful to select a fully prepaid 1 year plan ($227.40), and not a plan in several payments. So far no cancellation and BA estore shows 29,564 Avios pending. Fingers crossed !

  8. Hello,
I did subscribed to eharmony on March 4th. (Match.com was not available).
I paid $287.40 for 1 year so that equal, at 130 avios/$, to 37,362 avios.
I never received my avios, today is the 16th, 12 days later.
I contacted eharmony (at 844-544-3179) to explain the delay in posting the avios and guess what????
the answer was, quote “I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TAKING ABOUT” “I HAVE NEVER HEARD
OF THIS PROMOTIONAL OFFER”. “CONTACT BRITISH AIRWAYS”.
And of course I cannot have a refund because the time limit is only 3 days!
