This deal is targeted, and some folks have reported not being offered any bonus at all.  But it’s worth checking your Alaska Airlines account if you want to buy more miles for a particular trip!

Through February 8, 2017, you can get up to a 40% bonus when you buy Alaska Airlines miles.  To see what offer you’ve been targeted for, log-in to your Alaska Airlines account here.

For example, some folks have been targeted to get:

• 0% bonus on a purchase of 1,000 to 14,000 Alaska Airlines miles
• 40% bonus on a purchase of 15,000+ Alaska Airlines miles

But Million Mile Secrets team member Meghan wasn’t targeted for any bonus at all.  🙁

You can buy up to 60,000 Alaska Airlines miles per transaction.  And there’s no limit to the total number of miles you can buy.  So do the math to see what makes sense for your particular situation!

If you were targeted to earn a 40% bonus and bought the maximum 60,000 Alaska Airlines miles, you’d pay ~$1,774 (including taxes and fees) for a total of 84,000 Alaska Airlines miles.  Or ~2.1 cents per mile ($1,774 / 84,000 miles).

That’s not a terribly good value, so this deal is likely only worth it for folks who need to top off their account for a particular award ticket.

For example, you could fly First Class on Cathay Pacific from the US to Thailand for 70,000 Alaska Airlines miles one-way.  

With a 40% bonus, you could buy 50,000 Alaska Airlines miles for ~$1,478 and get a 20,000 mile bonus.  For a total of 70,000 Alaska Airlines miles (50,000 miles + 20,000 miles).

Paying ~$1,478 for a one-way First Class ticket to Thailand on Cathay Pacific might be an excellent deal for some folks!  Because the same ticket might easily cost ~$4,500 if you paid cash.
