You can earn up to 50,000 bonus American Airlines miles when you buy or gift American Airlines miles through January 30, 2017.

You can use these miles for award seats on American Airlines or any of their partners, like Air Berlin and Cathay Pacific!

To qualify for a bonus, you’ll need to purchase a minimum of 5,000 American Airlines miles.  And the more miles you buy, the bigger bonus you’ll earn.

For example, if you buy 5,000 to 14,000 American Airlines miles, you’ll get 1,000 bonus miles.  Up to a maximum of 50,000 bonus miles for buying between 100,000 and 150,000 American Airlines miles.

You Can Use American Airlines Miles to Fly to Europe for Free!

So if you buy 5,000 American Airlines miles to the get minimum 1,000 mile bonus, you’ll pay ~$189 , or ~3.15 cents per mile (~$189 / 6,000 miles).

If you buy 100,000 miles to earn the maximum 50,000 mile bonus, you’ll pay ~2.13 cents per mile ($3,201 / 150,000 miles).

This is NOT as good of a deal as American Airlines’ most recent buy miles promotion,  where you could buy miles for ~1.77 to ~2.67 cents per mile.

And it will not save you as much on Business and First Class tickets as the previous promotion did.

So if your goal is to save on Business and First Class tickets, I’d suggest waiting for a better deal!

Other Ways to Earn American Airlines Miles

There are plenty of other ways to collect American Airlines miles quickly.  For example, with the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite™ Mastercard® or the personal or business AMEX Starwood cards.

Or you can use the American Airlines shopping portal for purchases you’d make anyway and sign-up for the American Airlines dining program.

Bottom Line

Through January 30, 2017, you’ll earn bonus miles on miles purchases or gifts with American Airlines’ latest promotion.  You can earn between 1,000 and 50,000 bonus miles, depending on how many miles you buy.

This deal is best for folks who need a few miles to top-off their account for an upcoming trip.  But there have recently been other, better offers.

  1. I think I know what you mean but to be a wise guy I will point out that you state you can earn bonus miles for buying OR gifting miles. I see nothing about gifting miles to someone and getting a bonus for doing so.

  2. The problem with flying AA to Europe is that the taxes are high.
United is my favorite for that.
