Who Can Use This Deal?
If you already have travel plans, this could be a good deal for you.
You can use Great Circle Mapper to calculate the distance between airports.
For example, a flight from Colombo, Sri Lanka, to Male, Maldives, is usually around ~$230 round-trip. Or you can use 9,000 British Airways Avios points.
You could buy 9,000 British Airways Avios points for $190, and save ~$40 on your flight! Because 6,000 British Airways Avios points cost $190, and you’ll get a 3,000 point bonus (6,000 points + 3,000 points = 9,000 points).
A flight from Charlotte to Toronto can cost $400+ round-trip. Or you can use 15,000 British Airways Avios points instead.
You could buy 15,000 British Airways Avios points for $300, and save over $100 on your flight! Because 10,000 British Airways Avios points cost $300, and you’ll get a 5,000 point bonus (10,000 points + 5,000 points = 15,000 points).
Don’t Buy If You Don’t Have Travel Plans
If you don’t have upcoming plans, I’d pass on this deal. There are lots of other ways to earn British Airways Avios points.
For example, you could earn a 100,000 AMEX Membership Rewards point bonus from the The Enhanced Business Platinum® Card from American Express OPEN after meeting tiered minimum spending requirements, and transfer them to British Airways at a 5:4 ratio.
Plus, British Airways has its own co-branded Chase credit card, the Chase British Airways Card. You can earn 50,000 British Airways Avios points after you spend $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.

British Airways is giving folks 50% more points when they purchase British Airways Avios points until December 5, 2016, at 6:59 pm Eastern Time.
This deal makes purchasing British Airways Avios cheaper, but it’s still not a great deal. I wouldn’t buy just to stock up on points. But if you have an immediate use for the points, like domestic or international short-haul flights, it could be worth it for you.
