Citi is once again offering a sign-up bonus for the Citi ThankYou Premier!  You’ll earn 40,000 Citi ThankYou points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account.

In the past, the sign-up bonus has been 50,000 or 40,000 Citi ThankYou points, but most recently there was NO sign-up bonus at all!  So this is a good deal!

Because 40,000 points are worth at least $500 in travel!

Emily and I don’t earn a commission for the Citi ThankYou Premier, but we’ll always share the best deals with you!

Citi is making their credit cards more tempting again!  They just increased the sign-up bonus for the Citi Prestige to 50,000 points after meeting minimum spending.

And now they’ve given the Citi ThankYou Premier a sign-up bonus of 40,000 points after you spend $3,000 in the first 3 months of opening your account.

With this card you’ll also get:

  • 3 Citi ThankYou points per $1 spent on travel (like airfare, taxis, tolls, even gas stations!)
  • Citi ThankYou points per $1 spent on dining and entertainment (like amusement parks, sporting events, movies)
  • No foreign transaction fees

What Are Citi ThankYou Points Worth?

Citi ThankYou points are worth at least 1.25 cents each.  Because you can use them to buy travel through the Citi ThankYou portal at a rate 1.25 cents per point.  You can buy:

  • Airfare
  • Car Rentals
  • Cruises
  • Hotels

The $95 annual fee is NOT waived the 1st year.

So the current 40,000 point sign-up bonus is worth at least $500 towards travel!

But you’ll get even more value when you transfer them to valuable airline partners, like Singapore Airlines!

Know the New Citi Application Rules Before Applying!

Citi has tightened their credit card application rules.  They are now restricting folks from earning the sign-up bonus from more than 1 card of the same “brand” within 24 months.

So if you’ve had the Citi Prestige within the past 24 months, you will likely not be receive the bonus for the Citi ThankYou Premier.  And if you haven’t signed-up for either card, take a look at the current Citi Prestige offer and decide which card will get you the Biggest Travel!

Bottom Line

Citi is offering 40,000 ThankYou points when you sign-up for the Citi ThankYou Premier and spend $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of opening your account!

That’s good for at least $500 towards travel when you book through the Citi ThankYou Portal.  And potentially lots more when you transfer points to airline partners for Big Travel!

  1. Your links for the Prestige are for 40k not 50k points 🙁

  2. Where do you see that the annual fee is waived in the first year?

  3. Good deal. I’ll have to get on this.

  4. The new rules for thank you points imply that if I had taken out a Prestige card two years ago (which I did) and kept it for two years and it’s still open, I can get the premiere card and receive the bonus. Is this accurate?

    • No, because you still have a card in the family of TY point cards.

    • Good question Maxwell!

See, they say OPENED or CLOSED and I thought as well that if I opened a Thank You Premier 3 years ago (so over 24 months ago) and never closed it, I would be able to receive the bonus from a Citi Prestige card, since I have NOT opened or closed a Citi card in the past 24 months…

If that’s not the case, then it’s a silly rule cause they only push people to cancel their card to reapply 2 years later (as oppose to NOT cancel the card in order to get a clean 24 months membership and apply for a second Citi card).

Daraius if that’s the case please confirm one more time (though I Maxwell really asked the same thing and you replayed, is really a rule left to interpretation).
My yearly payment for the Thank You Premier is coming up in December. I’ll probably just transfer to Flying Blue, cancel the card, and apply in two years if they have something to offer!

Thanks for the question Maxwell, that verbiage from Citi was really misleading.

      • My interpretation is that as long as the card is open, it prevents you from getting the bonus. Even though you haven’t opened or closed a card in the 24 months before. As long as it is open, you can’t get the bonus (my reading). And i agree that the rule doesn’t make much sense to me.

  5. Hello, If I want to downgrade my Premier card to the Preferred card, will my points transfer over and be safe, or will I have to redeem them soon after?
