Through November 30, 2016, adding an authorized user can earn you 5,000 Hilton points with your AMEX Hilton Honors card and 10,000 Hilton points with your AMEX Hilton Honors Surpass.

Note:   There’s no direct link to the 10,000 point offer.  So check your inbox or spam folder to see if you’re targeted.

Your authorized user will have to meet the spending requirement for you to get the bonus, which is:

Earning bonus points is great!  Plus, these AMEX Hilton cards currently have their highest offers ever.

But before you add an authorized user, make sure it’s someone you trust.  Because any charges on additional accounts are ultimately your responsibility.

Be Sure to Add Someone You Trust as an Authorized User!

You’ll also want to consider the new account and payment history will appear on the authorized user’s credit report.  This might hurt their chances of getting new Chase cards because of their stricter approval rules.

If your authorized user has opened ~5 or more credit cards from any bank (excluding certain business cards) in the past 24 months, it’s unlikely he or she will be approved for most Chase cards.

But if your authorized user is not planning on getting any new Chase cards, then becoming an authorized user shouldn’t matter.

How to Use the Hilton Bonus Points

Award nights at Hilton hotels start at 5,000 Hilton points per night.

So, the 5,000 Hilton bonus points from adding an authorized user on the AMEX Hilton Honors can go toward a free night at a Hilton Category 1 hotel.

Or with 10,000 Hilton bonus points from adding an authorized user on the AMEX Hilton Honors Surpass, you can get a free night at a Hilton Category 2 hotel, like the Hilton Garden Inn Tulsa Oklahoma.  Hilton Garden Inn hotels are usually nice because they have made-to-order breakfasts.

Bottom Line

When you add an authorized user by November 30, 2016, you can earn 5,000 bonus Hilton points with the AMEX Hilton Honors card and 10,000 bonus Hilton points with the AMEX Hilton Honors Surpass card.

To earn the bonus points, your authorized user will have to meet a $500 or $1,000 spending requirement within the first 3 months.

Remember, an authorized user account might affect that person’s chances of getting a new Chase card because of the bank’s tougher application rules.
