Folks who want to pay rent with a credit card to earn miles & points or meet minimum spending requirements will soon have a new option.

Cozy, a modern service company for landlords and renters, plans to allow renters to pay rent to any landlord using a credit card.  This is welcome news following an abrupt end to rent payment processing by RadPad.

Payments are expected to have a 2.75% fee when you use any Visa, MasterCard, or Discover debit or credit card.  AMEX cards will NOT be accepted.

Starting soon, Cozy Pay will allow you to pay your rent online to any landlord with a Visa, MasterCard, or Discover debit or credit card.

The company already allows credit card payments.  But your landlord must be registered to use the system.

Removing the need for your landlord to register will make it much easier to pay rent using Cozy.

There’s no word on the official release date for the new system.  And there aren’t any details on expected payment processing times or if rent checks will be sent directly to your landlord.  But you can sign-up for the waitlist to receive updates directly.

Cozy hasn’t confirmed fees.  But they currently charge renters 2.75% for debit and credit card payments.

So you’ll want to do the math to see if the credit card fees are worth the rewards.  Paying fees might be worth it if you need to meet minimum spending requirements.

For example, you need to spend several thousand dollars in the first 3 months with the following cards to earn a sign-up bonus:

So paying rent with a credit card could put a nice dent in the spending requirement.  But I only recommend doing this if you can pay your balance in full each month.  Because the sign-up bonus or ongoing rewards you earn could be offset by any interest or fees you pay by carrying a balance.

Bottom Line

You’ll soon be able to use Cozy Pay to pay rent to any landlord with a credit card.

Many details are not yet final.  But fees for Visa, MasterCard, or Discover debit or credit card rent payments are expected to be 2.75%.

To get updates on Cozy Pay, you can sign-up for the waitlist.

To pay rent with a credit card in the meantime, you can take advantage of Plastiq’s limited time lower fee promotion.
