A reminder for folks enrolled in the IHG Rewards Club!

IHG has been giving 1,000 free IHG points to folks as a birthday gift.  And via Doctor of Credit, it’s a good idea to double-check your account to make sure your birthday is set correctly!

I’ve said it’s a good idea to sign up for all airline and hotel loyalty programs.  Because you’ll have more opportunities to earn rewards!  You probably won’t use every program, but you never know.

Plus, after you’re signed-up, you will receive special promotions and targeted offers in your email, so you can jump on great deals before it’s too late!

Signing-up for multiple loyalty accounts can be time consuming (and a little dull), but it’s worth the effort.  One thing folks don’t usually do is complete their profile with each loyalty program.  But doing so can earn you extra rewards!

IHG is giving away 1,000 bonus points to loyalty members on their birthday.  But providing your birthday isn’t one of the requirements when you first enroll!  So you may never have added it to your account.

Adding your birthday is simple:

  • While viewing your account page, click “Personal Information” to the left of the screen
  • Find “Add Birth Date” at the bottom of the page
  • Enter the month and the day!

Enjoy the points!

  1. Just missed my birthday, so I hope they’re doing it again next year. Do you know if they do this every year? That would be an easy way to make sure points never expire!

  2. My birthday was late August and shows on website but, no 1000 points. Is it automatic or do I have to phone in on my birthday to get the points?? Can I call in now for the missing points??

  3. Same here, birthday in August, is on my account but I did not get any points for it.

  4. I got the birthday points email on my birthday. You need to register for the offer from the email link. Checking the details in My Offers showed that the points were only valid starting on my birthday for 90 days thereafter.
So 3 days after my birthday I re-booked an upcoming reward reservation via the My Offers link so the points would be applied. HOWEVER, I just returned from my trip and checked my account. Apparently, the birthday bonus 1K points took 5 days to be posted to my account, which was 2 days after I rebooked my reward stay.
I did call IHG Rewards Club and they noted the timing issue of my re-booking and the birthday bonus posting. They assumed the timing would cause the points to be lost so they gave me a courtesy goodwill adjustment. Can’t ask for more than that.
So if you get this bonus, be sure to check the expiration date in your offers, and watch for the bonus to actually post before you try to use them.
