Exciting news!  You can now earn 50,000 Barclaycard Arrival miles with the Barclaycard Arrival Plus card, after meeting minimum spending requirements.  That’s worth $525 in statement credits towards travel purchases of $100 or more!

That’s a great sign-up bonus for a card that waives the annual fee the first year.  And this is the highest offer I’ve ever seen on the Barclaycard Arrival Plus card, so if you’ve been thinking about it, now’s the time to apply!

With the increased sign-up bonus on the Barclaycard Arrival Plus card, you can earn 50,000 Barclaycard Arrival miles after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first 90 days of opening your account.

You’ll also get:

  • 2X Barclaycard Arrival miles per $1 you spend on all purchases
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Chip-and-PIN capability for use overseas

The $89 annual fee is waived the first year.

The sign-up bonus is worth $525 in statement credits for travel purchases of $100+, because your miles are worth 1 cent each.  And you’ll get 5% of your miles back when you redeem them for travel.

This effectively makes the card a 2.1% back card when you redeem miles for travel.  The minimum redemption amount is $100 (10,000 miles).

Use the Sign-Up Bonus From the Barclaycard Arrival Plus to Help Offset the Cost of a Ticket to Spain. And Enjoy Old-World Toledo, Spain, Like I Did!

If you use your miles for cash back, your miles are only worth 0.5 cents each, and the minimum redemption amount is $25 (5,000 miles).  Making the sign-up bonus worth $250 in cash back.

So it’s a better deal to use your points for statement credits on travel purchases.

Travel redemption options include:

  • Airlines
  • Hotels
  • Motels
  • Timeshares
  • Campgrounds
  • Car rental agencies
  • Cruise lines
  • Travel agencies
  • Discount travel sites (they don’t specify which, but I suspect sites like Hotwire, Priceline, and Orbitz could count!)
  • Trains
  • Buses
  • Taxis
  • Limousines
  • Ferries

You have a lot of options!  Just remember, you must redeem a minimum of 10,000 Barclaycard Arrival miles (worth $100) when you’re using miles for travel purchases.  So inexpensive taxi rides or a $10 campground fee will NOT qualify.

Also, tourist attractions like museums and theme parks are no longer on the travel redemption list.

Tourist Attractions Do NOT Count as Travel With the Barclaycard Arrival Plus

So you can NOT use your Barclaycard Arrival miles for a trip to see Mickey Mouse. 🙁

Is This a Good Deal?

The Barclaycard Arrival Plus is a great choice for the sign-up bonus, but not good for keeping beyond the first year, when you’ll have to pay the $89 annual fee.  Because there are other no-annual-fee cards that earn similar cash back.

Other Cards to Consider After the First Year

Link:   Fidelity® Rewards Visa Signature® Card

The Citi Double Cash earns 1% cash back on purchases, and 1% back when you pay your bill.  And the Fidelity Rewards Visa Signature offers 2% cash back everywhere when you deposit rewards points into your eligible Fidelity account.

Because these are cash back cards, you can redeem your rewards for anything, not just travel.  The only downside is they DO NOT come with a sign-up bonus.

Recently Approved With a Lower Sign-Up Bonus?

If you recently applied for this card with the 40,000 Barclaycard Arrival miles sign-up bonus, it’s worth calling the bank to see if they’ll match the better offer.  You can also send a secure message.

I can’t guarantee this will work, but it’s certainly worth trying to earn an additional 10,000 Barclaycard Arrival miles.

Million Mile Secrets team member Jasmin got the Barclaycard Arrival Plus ~3 weeks ago.

She just called the bank to see if they would match the higher 50,000 Barclaycard Arrival miles offer.  The phone representative couldn’t, but said they’d open a case for her that could take up to 7 to 10 business days.

So she may or may not get the extra miles, but at least they didn’t say no!

Bottom Line

If you’ve been thinking about getting the Barclaycard Arrival Plus card, it’s a great time to apply!

Because with the highest offer ever for this card, you’ll earn 50,000 Barclaycard Arrival miles after meeting minimum spending requirements.  That’s worth $525 in statement credits for travel purchases of $100 or more.

Travel categories include things like airfare, hotel stays, train tickets, and cruise ships.  But with the $100 minimum redemption, quick and inexpensive taxi rides, for example, will NOT qualify.

And although the Barclaycard Arrival Plus card has a great sign-up bonus, it’s not worth keeping after the first year when the annual fee is due.  Because there are other no-annual-fee cards, like the Citi Double Cash, that offer similar cash back.
