Visiting family and friends is my favorite way to use miles and points!
I recently spent some much-needed time with my mom in the beautiful state of Oregon! I spent a few days in Portland with my friend Kristen before my mom arrived.
The highlight of my travel was road-tripping with my mom to my cousin Rachel’s wedding. The wedding was a long overdue family reunion. I hadn’t seen some of my cousins for years!
The drive along the beautiful Oregon coast was gorgeous. It’s now one of my favorite places in the US!

A Trip to Oregon Isn’t Complete Without a Visit to the Coast!
Portland is a fun city, but I found the true beauty and uniqueness of Oregon at the coast. If you have a couple of days to spare, I highly recommend adding a drive along the coast to your Portland itinerary. I’ll visit the national forests and waterfalls when I return!
My mom and I drove to Albany, Oregon, to pick up my aunt. Then the 3 of us continued our drive to Coos Bay, which is right on the coast.
We had a great time stopping off every so often and admiring the views.
I almost felt like I was in another country! I’m used to seeing a lot of flat farmland where I’m from in the Midwest. Oregon was a welcome change.
We loved the beautiful, tall trees!
We even passed a dispensary! For a moment, I forgot marijuana was legal in Oregon.
We would have loved to stop at the beaches, but it was a little too cold. Our trip was during a crisp September, but maybe the summer months would be a great time to take a dip! Though I have heard that the beaches in this area are extremely cold.
Our wide-eyed joyride was over in just a few hours. We had arrived in Coos Bay for my cousin Rachel’s wedding, and were excited to visit with family! After years of living far away, I was able to see all the cousins I grew up with!
My mom was thrilled to see her nieces and nephew that she hadn’t seen in so long!
Later, my mom and I had a blast driving around Coos Bay. She wanted to get her picture next to the new iPhone 7.
We visited the pier to take a few more pictures.
My cousin, Laura, met us at the pier to spend the last part of our Oregon trip together!
Making the trip my cousin’s wedding was one of the best ways to use miles! I was able to see family I had not seen in years. And I spent much needed time with my mom.
I can’t wait to visit Oregon again and see the rest of the state’s natural beauty!
