CNN reports that a passenger named Haven was awarded 1 million miles for flying just once on Cebu Pacific Air. And it was her first-ever flight on ANY airline!
That’s because Haven was born on that flight!
Cebu Pacific Air’s CEO awarded Haven 1 million GetGo loyalty points that never expire to share with her family.
Are you planning to have a child? I’ll explain if this a good way to earn miles!
Thank you to Million Mile Secrets reader Dr. Ko for tweeting me this terrific news!
Haven was born 4 hours into a Cebu Pacific Air flight from Dubai to Manila. She deplaned from “Mommy Air” ~5 weeks early.
Two nurses who were passengers on the flight delivered the baby alongside the cabin crew of the low-cost airline.
Is This a Good Mile Earning Strategy?
No. While some airlines have awarded perks and miles for giving birth on their airplanes, I do NOT recommend flying constantly while 9 months pregnant just to earn “unexpected” miles when you’re expecting.
This may have been a limited-time offer targeted to one baby.
Also, it’s likely you can only earn the baby bonus once per lifetime. I suspect Haven’s mother can’t get the miles again by having her next child on the same airline.
At this time it’s not certain if birthing twins would get you 2 million miles on Cebu Pacific Air.
Will Other Budget Airlines Follow Suit?
I hope so!
But remember, if your baby is born while flying Spirit Airlines you will be charged a $199 delivery fee.
Just kidding. 😉
Congratulations to Haven and her family! You’ve got a great start getting Big Travel with Small Money!
