Update: One or more card offers in this post are no longer available. Check our Hot Deals for the latest offers.
I wrote last week about rumors the Citi Prestige would soon be changing, but it wasn’t clear whether the sign-up bonus would increase, decrease, or stay the same.
You’ll now earn 40,000 Citi ThankYou points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account. Previously, the offer was 50,000 Citi ThankYou points after spending $3,000 on purchases in the same timeframe.
But there’s still a way to get the previous 50,000 Citi ThankYou point offer! I don’t know how long the link will last.
We don’t earn a commission on the Citi Prestige card, but Emily and I will always share the best deals!
I’ll share what we know about the changes!
A Lower Bonus, Higher Minimum Spending, and Other Changes
And now with the new Citi Prestige offer, the sign-up bonus has gone down by 10,000 points to 40,000 Citi ThankYou points. And the minimum spending has increased by $1,000, to $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.
But you can still apply online for the 50,000 point offer! That said, I’d take a screenshot of the landing page just to be safe if you decide to sign-up. And I suspect the link won’t last long.
The annual fee for the card is $450 (not waived for the first year). But you can more than make up for it if you use the $250 annual airfare credit and other benefits, like lounge access, the 4th night free on hotel stays, and Global Entry credit.
A Bit of Good News and a Possible Typo
Earlier rumors suggested the new version of the Citi Prestige would no longer earn 2X Citi ThankYou points on dining. According to the landing page for the new offer, that’s NOT the case.
But the landing page for the new 40,000 point Citi Prestige offer appears to have a typo. It says 40,000 Citi ThankYou points are worth $800 in paid American Airlines flights. That’s a rate of 2 cents per Citi ThankYou point.
Normally, when you have the Citi Prestige, you can redeem points at a rate of 1.6 cents each for American Airlines and partner flights when you book through the Citi Travel Center through July 23, 2017.
I reached out to Citi and they weren’t sure if it was an error, and their customer service line is very slow right now. If they’ve actually changed the redemption rate, I’ll be sure to tell you about it!
Meanwhile, it might be worth taking a screenshot! They may or may not honor the rate.
The new offer for the Citi Prestige is now online, and it’s NOT as good a deal.
You’ll earn 40,000 Citi ThankYou points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account. That’s 10,000 fewer points (and $1,000 more in spending) than the previous bonus.
But the old 50,000 point offer is still active! It likely won’t be online for long, so if you’ve been considering this card, I’d apply quickly (and take a screenshot of the landing page).
Emily and I don’t earn anything from the Citi Prestige, but we’ll always tell you about the best deals.
I’ll update y’all if I find out more about changes to the card!
