I wrote last week about rumors the Citi Prestige would soon be changing, but it wasn’t clear whether the sign-up bonus would increase, decrease, or stay the same.

Now, via Reddit, the new offer for the Citi Prestige is online.  And it’s NOT as good.

You’ll now earn 40,000 Citi ThankYou points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account.  Previously, the offer was 50,000 Citi ThankYou points after spending $3,000 on purchases in the same timeframe.

But there’s still a way to get the previous 50,000 Citi ThankYou point offer!  I don’t know how long the link will last.

We don’t earn a commission on the Citi Prestige card, but Emily and I will always share the best deals!

Citi Prestige Changes Confirmed Lower Bonus Higher Minimum Spending But Old Offer Still Available For Now

The Citi Prestige Still Comes With Terrific Benefits, Like the 4th Night Free on Paid Hotel Stays Booked Through the Citi Concierge. But the Sign-Up Bonus Is Decreasing!

I’ll share what we know about the changes!

A Lower Bonus, Higher Minimum Spending, and Other Changes

Link:   Citi Prestige Old Link (50,000 Point Sign-Up Bonus)

Citi already announced this week Citi Prestige cardholders would lose American Airlines Admirals Club lounge access in June 2017.

And now with the new Citi Prestige offer, the sign-up bonus has gone down by 10,000 points to 40,000 Citi ThankYou points.  And the minimum spending has increased by $1,000, to $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.

But you can still apply online for the 50,000 point offer!  That said, I’d take a screenshot of the landing page just to be safe if you decide to sign-up.  And I suspect the link won’t last long.

You’d Better Pick up the Pace If You Still Want the 50,000 Point Citi Prestige Sign-Up Bonus, Because I Doubt It Will Last Long

Folks on Reddit also noted the free golf benefit isn’t mentioned on the landing page for the new offer.  But the Citi Prestige benefits guide still includes it.

And you’ll still get the 4th night free on paid hotel stays when you book through the Citi Concierge, which is one of my favorite perks of the card!

The annual fee for the card is $450 (not waived for the first year).  But you can more than make up for it if you use the $250 annual airfare credit and other benefits, like lounge access, the 4th night free on hotel stays, and Global Entry credit.

A Bit of Good News and a Possible Typo

Earlier rumors suggested the new version of the Citi Prestige would no longer earn 2X Citi ThankYou points on dining.  According to the landing page for the new offer, that’s NOT the case.

But the landing page for the new 40,000 point Citi Prestige offer appears to have a typo.  It says 40,000 Citi ThankYou points are worth $800 in paid American Airlines flights.  That’s a rate of 2 cents per Citi ThankYou point.

Citi Prestige Changes Confirmed Lower Bonus Higher Minimum Spending But Old Offer Still Available For Now

$800 Worth of American Airlines Flights for 40,000 Citi ThankYou Points Is a Rate of 2 Cents per Point! But This Is Probably a Typo :(

Normally, when you have the Citi Prestige, you can redeem points at a rate of 1.6 cents each for American Airlines and partner flights when you book through the Citi Travel Center through July 23, 2017

I reached out to Citi and they weren’t sure if it was an error, and their customer service line is very slow right now.  If they’ve actually changed the redemption rate, I’ll be sure to tell you about it!

Meanwhile, it might be worth taking a screenshot!  They may or may not honor the rate.

Bottom Line

The new offer for the Citi Prestige is now online, and it’s NOT as good a deal.

You’ll earn 40,000 Citi ThankYou points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account.  That’s 10,000 fewer points (and $1,000 more in spending) than the previous bonus.

But the old 50,000 point offer is still active!  It likely won’t be online for long, so if you’ve been considering this card, I’d apply quickly (and take a screenshot of the landing page).

Emily and I don’t earn anything from the Citi Prestige, but we’ll always tell you about the best deals.

I’ll update y’all if I find out more about changes to the card!

  1. Pradeep Kumar

Thanks you! I just applied for it with the old link..

  2. I signed up for the old terms on Monday night and just got an express mail letter from Citi today confirming my approval and offer terms. However they didn’t include the actual card, which is said to arrive within 7-10 days. I guess Citi is still running short on plastic…

  3. Hi Daraius,

One correction, the Admirals club access benefit is extended by 1 month to July 2017. Very interesting on the $800 typo. Please let us know what you find out if they are raising the redemption from 1.6 cents to 2 cents (that would be an awesome increase)!

  4. I also just signed up for the card for the 50k bonus with 3k spend. I actually don’t see the 40k offer? Both links still state a 50k bonus.

  5. The statement on the value of points now removed any mention of American. Hope the 1.6 cents is not going away…

“Earn 40,000 bonus ThankYou® Points after you spend $4,000 in purchases within 3 months of account opening. Points are redeemable for a $532 flight on any airline or $400 in gift cards.”

  6. Simon,

My wife got the same approval letter, then the actual card arrived via FedEx a day or two later. Then the Priority Pass card will arrive about a week later.

  7. Simon –

My wife was approved last week and got the same letter with the 7-10 days language but actually received the card in 3 business days via FedEx (which matches what the approval email said).

  8. The language is probably a cut and paste job since 50K TYP redeemed at 1.6 cents for AA flights is $800

  9. Does anyone have a screenshot of the 50k offer? I’m looking to apply for the card asap but I’m only seeing the 40k offer now…would appreciate the help! Thanks

  10. @Nelly – The 50,000 point offer is no longer available. I suspected it wouldn’t last long!

@All – Congrats to everyone who got the higher offer!
